Bridge Learning Campus currently have an exciting opportunity for a dedicated practitioner to join the team as a Speech and Language Therapy Higher Learning Teaching Assistant in their Primary School to join the school speech and language team. The role is varied, and we are looking for adaptable, flexible and resourceful individuals able to cope in a high-pressure environment and deal with constantly changing priorities.

Key responsibilities:

  • Undertake screenings, directed by the SALT/SENDCO to assess the needs of students and use detailed knowledge and specialist skills to develop interventions and strategies to support.
  • Provide verbal feedback to students and staff in relation to progress and achievement.
  • Within an agreed system of supervision, plan challenging teaching and learning objectives and to evaluate and adjust lessons/work plans as appropriate.
  • Monitor and evaluate student responses to learning activities through a range of assessment and monitoring activities against pre‐determined learning objectives.
  • Provide objective and accurate feedback and written reports as required on student achievement, progress and other matters ensuring the availability of appropriate evidence; this can include contributions to EHCPs, Pupil Passports, Annual Reviews and Pupil Learning Plans.
  • Maintain accurate records of support.
  • Deliver training and mentoring for other support staff as appropriate under the direction of the SALT/SENDCO.
  • Hold regular team meetings with other appropriate staff.
  • Deliver whole class sessions relating to SALT, e.g. Vocabulary sessions.
  • To plan and deliver bespoke learning activities for the child/ren under the guidance of the SENDCO/SALT.
  • To deliver the statutory provisions related to a child’s EHCP for communication and interaction, under the guidance of the SENDCO/SALT.
  • To make a significant contribution for/at meetings with outside professionals linked to a child’s EHCP; for example Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, Visual Impairment Teacher, Teacher of the Deaf.
  • To attend and contribute to liaison meetings with SALT for core referrals.
  • To provide 1:1 support for assessments for identified children with EHCPs or significant SALT needs.

Job requirements

  • HLTA qualification (or be awaiting confirmation of it)
  • 5 GCSEs at grade C/Level 4 or above or equivalent including English and Maths
  • At least 2 Years’ experience working with children in education.
  • Experience working with specific types of SEN
  • Ability to undertake a range of teaching activities with confidence, working effectively with individual pupils, groups of pupils and whole classes
  • Ability to contribute to assessment and monitoring of pupil progress
