From September 2026, Maesteg School is seeking to appoint a Safeguarding and Wellbeing lead. Working as part of our pastoral team, the role-holder will be the main point of contact for safeguarding issues for parents, carers, staff and governors. They will ensure that all safeguarding and child protection procedures are consistently adhered to and that all members of the school community are aware of these. They will work with the pastoral team in responding to the wellbeing needs of our pupils and will lead on all matters relating to Looked after children.

KEY FUNCTIONS

• Ensure the school systems for monitoring, tracking and following up on safeguarding concerns are rigorously implemented and high quality.

• Reinforce the high levels of expectations of vigilance around safeguarding.

• Delivering induction and update training to staff and governors.

• Develop the school’s relationship with the Local Authority (including the Education Engagement Team, Early Help Team) ensuring that all existing support is utilised in ensuring the safety and improving of the wellbeing of pupils.

• Develop relationships with all external pupil support agencies

• Identify pupils who would benefit from proactive safeguarding work and deliver a programme of support to those pupils.

• To take accountability for safeguarding across the school.

• Monitor and challenge the appropriateness of responses from the Local Authority.

• To support CLA pupils and families, ensuring that all existing support is utilised to provide the highest standard of care

• To support vulnerable pupils, ensuring that all existing support is utilised to provide the highest standard of care.
