The post holder will, along with 2 other Designated Safeguarding leads assume operational responsibility for safeguarding and child protection within the school.  They will represent the school at inter-agency meetings, Child Protection and other meetings relating to Child Protection and Safeguarding as required and contribute proactively to the assessment of children.  

The Safeguarding and Wellbeing Lead (SWL) will be a member of the extended leadership team and as such will ensure that all senior leaders are fully aware of safeguarding and child protection issues as well as ensuring that up-to-date guidance and frameworks are shared.  The role will focus solely on safeguarding and wellbeing and will not include other duties.  

The SWL will be line managed by the Deputy Headteacher/Headteacher who, will have ultimate responsibility for safeguarding and child protection issues in the school.

It is expected that the successful candidate will have the knowledge, skills and experience to operate at a Designated Lead level – including having undertaken the Level 3 DSL training.  Provision will be made to ensure that the SWL will have access to further up-to-date professional learning opportunities regarding safeguarding, wellbeing and pupil support issues.  

It is expected that the successful candidate will be a confident IT user able to use IT equipment and a range of applications (e.g. MyConcern, Sims, Classcharts) effectively to ensure that accurate and up-to-date information is held on all pupils.  The SWL will analyse trends, identify issues and so on and discuss these with the leadership team/Education Engagement Team in order to ensure that appropriate strategies/actions are taken Appropriate desktop and mobile IT equipment would be made available in order to help facilitate this.  

As a non-teaching leadership team member, this would ensure that time would be available to attend meetings, case conferences and other multi-agency meetings as required. The SWL will be available to discuss safeguarding concerns and will offer support to colleagues within the pupil support team regarding referrals (in liaison with the Education Engagement Team) to the Multi-Agency Support Hub.  The SWL will be the key point of contact for members of the Education Engagement Team, police, social services and other practitioners. Working with key partners, the SWL will manage immediate actions to ensure that the individual(s) is safe from abuse. 

The SWL will be supported by two other designated safeguarding leads and a team of deputies, all working together and having equal status and access to the same professional learning.  The SWL will be contracted to work outside term-time and along with the team will ensure that cover for safeguarding issues and so on is provided throughout the year.

Protecting children, young people or adults at risk is a core responsibility of all council employees.
