It's no surprise that Bristol is consistently rated as one of the best places to live and work in the UK. Join us and you’ll get more than a challenging job; you’ll enjoy all the benefits of living and working in one of Europe's most vibrant and best-located cities.
Our international reputation as a centre of culture and place to visit has grown dramatically in recent years - partly thanks to the council-led regeneration of the city centre and historic Harbourside.
With great architecture and stunning views, a host of cultural attractions and a great range of places to eat and drink, the city welcomes over nine million visitors every year.
It also offers one of the country’s widest selections of music, multimedia and performance venues; nightclubs; art galleries; museums; parks and open spaces; historic buildings and places to relax, walk and cycle.
Bristol can provide a shopping experience to suit every taste and pocket. The best-known high street names can be found in the heart of the city at Broadmead - with more of the country's most stylish fashion brands as part of the £500 million Cabot Circus development. We have more independent shops than any other major city - and if you head to vibrant locations like Park Street, Whiteladies Road, Gloucester Road, Clifton Village and the historic St Nicholas Market, you’ll find just the unusual and individual gift you were looking for.
As well as all this – and more - Bristol is within easy reach of some of Britain’s most stunning landscapes, such as the Cotswolds, Cheddar Gorge, Stonehenge and the Somerset, Devon and South Wales countryside and coast.
It’s easy to get to the rest of the UK and Europe from Bristol; of all the major UK cities, it’s the nearest to London and has unrivalled rail and motorway links, not to mention one of the country's fastest growing international airports.
You can find out more about Bristol's attractions at our tourism website www.visitbristol.co.uk and there’s more a wide range of information about the city at www.bristol.gov.uk
Bristol has some of the fastest-improving schools in the country - and a massive rebuilding programme is delivering state-of-the-art learning environments across the city.
The proportion of students with five or more GCSE Grades A* to C or equivalent vocational qualifications at 'state' schools in Bristol rose by over 7% last year, with several schools outperformiong even this margin.
These results built on similar recent improvements at Key Stages 2 and 3, where performance in some areas of the curriculum improved by as much as 8%. School attendance also improved, rising to over 90% across the city.
Our £263 million secondary school rebuilding programme uses a combination of the Council's own capital resources and government Private Finance Initiative (PFI) and Building Schools for the Future (BSF) credits.
New school buildings have opened at Henbury, Portway, Fairfield, Monks Park and Bedminster Down Schools, with work underway at Speedwell, Whitefield Fishponds and Brislington and a completely new school nearing completion at Redland Green.
At Hartcliffe, an exciting campus will provide the UK’s first fully integrated provision, linking all stages of the education process from early years to post 16 on one site.
Hengrove and Withywood Schools will also see major refurbishment or redevelopment as part of the proposed introduction of new academy arrangements for their future management.
This organisation is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. For further information please see the Local Safeguarding Children Boards website.
Please note that individual schools are not necessarily holders of the two tick symbol.
Bristol City Council is Positive about Disabled People.
