The Role
We are advertising for a full time Psychology and/or Sociology teacher. The post is available from 1 September 2026 and is a temporary contract to cover maternity leave. As such, this temporary contract will last for a maximum of 52 weeks, i.e. until the permanent post holder returns.
This post provides a unique opportunity to develop new skills in a school which has a compelling vision and deep commitment to providing exceptional teaching and learning. Please see the Job Description and Person Specification for further details.
There may also be an opportunity for a suitably qualified candidate to take on an additional temporary role as a Deputy Head of Year (TLR 2a). Please refer to the Job Description and Person Specifications attached to our advert for details. Successful candidates would be allocated to main school or sixth form according to the needs of the school.
Psychology recruits strongly in the Sixth Form with typically five classes in each year. It has historically been one of our strongest performing subjects. Sociology also recruits strongly in the Sixth Form with typically four classes in each year. A strong team of teachers contribute to these subjects with some staff teaching across both areas and others contributing to other disciplines.
The group of Social Science Post 16 subjects also contains Law, Politics, Philosophy and Classical Civilisation. It is led by the Post 16 Subject Coordinator and brings together the teachers of these various post-16 subjects to develop collaborative approaches to teaching and learning.
Our School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and so safeguarding checks will be undertaken as part of the recruitment and selection process. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the successful applicant will be expected to undertake an enhanced Criminal Disclosure. We welcome applicants regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, or religion. It is an offence to apply for this role if the applicant is barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children. You can find a copy of our Safeguarding Policy on our website.
