The School Caretaker is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, clean, and well-functioning school environment. They oversee the upkeep of school buildings, grounds, equipment, and facilities, ensuring that the premises are ready for daily use by students, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

• Open and close school buildings according to agreed schedules.
• Carry out routine inspections of buildings, grounds, and equipment.
• Perform basic maintenance and minor repairs, including plumbing, carpentry, painting, and electrical tasks where appropriate.
• Ensure heating, lighting, and ventilation systems are operating correctly.
• Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of external areas, including playgrounds, pathways, and car parks.
• Monitor health and safety standards across the school site.
• Respond promptly to maintenance issues and emergencies.
• Arrange or supervise contractors carrying out repair and maintenance work.
• Conduct security checks and ensure buildings are secure outside school hours.
• Assist with setting up rooms, halls, and equipment for school events and activities.
• Manage supplies and maintenance inventories.
• Report significant defects, hazards, or incidents to school management.

35 hours per week, Split Shifts, with flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, during school holidays as required.

Requirements
Essential

• Previous experience in building maintenance, caretaking, facilities management, or a similar role.
• Basic knowledge of health and safety regulations.
• Ability to perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks.
• Good communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage priorities.
• Physical fitness to carry out manual tasks.

Desirable

• Experience working in a school or educational environment.
• Relevant maintenance, trade, or facilities qualifications.
• First Aid certification.
• Knowledge of fire safety procedures.
