Reception to Y1 Early Career Teacher

Full Time and Temporary (Maternity Cover)

Required from 3rd June 2024 – June 2025 (or sooner should the post holder return)

September start-date would be considered for the best candidate

Salary: M1

We are looking for an enthusiastic and talented Early Career teacher to join our team. This post is to cover maternity leave until June 2025, or sooner if the post holder request to return. However, there is the possibility this could be extended for the full academic year 2024-25 if needed. If you are unable to start the position until September 2024 this would not be prohibitive for the best candidate.

We are seeking an excellent classroom practitioner, at the start of their career, to join our highly effective Phase 1 team at Ashley Down Primary School. As part of our ongoing school improvement plan we are looking at strengthening the transitions and learning from Reception into KS1. This role would ideally start after the May half-term holiday in reception with the successful candidate moving up to Y1 with the cohort of children. A practitioner with recent experience working in the early years would be an advantage but as the majority of this post would be in Y1 this is where we would focus the essential teaching skills. An understanding of early reading and phonics is essential for this role.

We are looking for the right candidate who:

• Is passionate about teaching and learning and wants to innovate and think creatively

• Has a sound understanding of the National Curriculum in Year 1 and can apply this in practice.

• Can inspire a love of reading whilst balancing the need for children to have the foundation of a systematic synthetic phonics programme.

• Is aware of the Early Years Curriculum and the Early Learning Goals children are expected to reach at the end of reception.

• Has high expectations and can plan and deliver learning to enable personal development and learning progress.

• Can apply the behaviour regulation policy and enable children to feel a sense of belonging to Ashley Down Primary School.

• Is confident in assessment practice, particularly at the end of reception and how this informs transition into Year 1.

• Is keen to be part of the wider school beyond their own classroom.

We can offer:

• Experienced ECT induction mentor and tutor and CPD through the Five Counties Teaching School Hubs Alliance and Ambition Institute.

• Training in our SSP – Unlocking Letters and Sounds.

• Happy, confident and engaged children who enthuse about their learning.

• Dedicated, energetic and forward-thinking staff and governors.

• A welcoming community and proactive Parent Staff Association.

• A commitment to your professional development and the ongoing support of experienced colleagues.

• Access to an Employee Assistance Programme and a team who prioritise a healthy work-life balance.

• An environment where people are looked after and look after each other.
