Clerk to Governors
Start Date: 1st September 2026
Salary: BG8 £29,064 pro-rata (Actual salary £3,967 pa based on average 5.05 hpw, April 2025 payscale)
The successful candidate has the option of a mix of remote & in-person working or 100% remote working.
There is the potential for the successful candidate to expand the size of the role by clerking at additional local primary schools. These schools are all independent of each other but have many shared values and characteristics.

The main purpose of the role is to provide advice to the governing body on governance, constitutional and procedural matters. The new regulations require governing bodies to have regard to advice from the clerk in regards to exercising the governing body functions:
▪ Provide effective and proactive administrative support to the governing body and its committees.
▪ Ensure the governing body is properly constituted.
▪ Manage information effectively in accordance with legal requirements.
The clerk to the governing body is accountable to the governing body and will need to work closely with the chair of governors, vice-chair of governors, and headteacher. In addition to the full governing body (FGB), the St. John’s governing body currently has two committees: Teaching, Learning & Wellbeing, and Finance & Resources. The FGB and committees currently meet 5 times a year unless circumstances require otherwise.
