Ashley Down Schools Federation has one governing body that oversees two two-form entry schools – Ashley Down Primary School and Brunel Field Primary School, both Local Authority maintained schools. The Federation’s Governing Body is looking to appoint a clerk to support them in their work.

This post can easily fit in with other commitments. Hours are worked primarily during term time. Apart from attendance at meetings, the role can be carried out from home, at times of the day to suit the post-holder (within agreed deadlines). The post could easily be combined with other posts, including clerking roles in other schools.

The post is a part-time position, for 5.5 hours per week (on average) covering 12 meetings per academic year. Full Governing Body meetings will be held on weekday (currently Thursday) evenings at one of the schools three times per year, with committee meetings taking place online (also Thursdays) in alternate terms. The 25/26 schedule is provided in the job description.

The clerk to the governors is central to the smooth running of the governing body: preparing agendas, taking and distributing minutes, offering administrative support, keeping records and giving procedural and legislative advice to the governing body. Clerks must have excellent organisation, communication and ICT skills, as well as an ability to take accurate minutes at meetings. To help the successful applicant fulfil their role we expect them to attend all relevant training events and Clerk’s Network meetings.

Closing date for applications is midday on Friday 26th September 2025.

Candidates will be notified by Tuesday 30th September if invited for interview, and interviews will take place on Friday 3rd October.
