Location: Sefton Park Infant and Junior Schools, Bristol, UK
Salary: BG7, SCP 08 £26,827 pa, pro rata £12,680
Contract Type: Part-time term time only, fixed term contract until 31/05/27
Hours: 20 hours per week - spread over 4 or 5 days. Timings can be flexible but will include a Lunchtime Duty.
Reporting to: SENDCo/English Leads.

About the Role:
We are seeking a dedicated, flexible and enthusiastic Early Literacy Learning Support Assistant to join our team at Sefton Park. The successful candidate will provide targeted support to children requiring assistance with phonics and reading, working with pupils from Year 1 to Year 3. This role is crucial in helping our pupils develop strong foundational literacy skills, ensuring they achieve their full potential, and helping every child to become a reader. This is a fixed term role until 31/5/2027 in the first instance, with the possibility of the contract being extended for the right candidate. Additional training and coaching will be provided for the successful candidate.
Key Responsibilities:
● Work alongside the SEND Team and English Leads to assess and identify pupils for interventions.
● Plan, prepare and deliver high quality phonics and reading support sessions for individuals and small groups of pupils.
● Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that fosters children’s confidence and engagement.
● Implement tailored learning activities based on the National Curriculum and our systematic synthetic phonics programme, Success for All Phonics
● Support the development of early reading skills, including phonemic awareness, decoding strategies, recognition of common exception words and development of comprehension skills.
● Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to class teachers, the SEND Team and the English Team.
● Use a variety of resources and approaches to meet the diverse needs of pupils.
● Collaborate with teachers and other staff to develop and adapt learning materials.
● Participate in regular training and professional development activities.
● Support children to develop a love of reading.
● Support breaktime and lunchtime supervision and off-site activities where required.
● Uphold safeguarding and statutory guidance.
