The Role

We are currently recruiting for a permanent Learning Mentor who will join our wider Learning Mentor team. This post has become available due to the promotion of the current post holder to a role at another school.

The successful applicant will be line managed by the Deputy Headteacher (Pastoral, Inclusion, and Ethos), who will be supported by the wider leadership team. Most of our learning mentors work within the year group pastoral system. The successful applicant will work collaboratively as part of this team and will be available to support a particular year group as required, however, the specific focus for this post is Children in Care, Young Carers and Previously Looked After Children. The post holder will also work closely with our highly effective Mental Health and Attendance teams, and outside agencies, including the Hope Virtual School for Children in Care. This post provides a unique opportunity to develop and deploy new skills in a School which has a compelling vision and deep commitment to providing exceptional teaching, learning, and pastoral care.

The post is part time working a minimum of 21 hours, maximum 28 hours, per week. The exact working pattern will be discussed and agreed at the formal interview stage but is likely to be 08:15 to 15:45 on 3 or 4 days per week, including a 30-minute unpaid lunch break.

The successful candidate will work term time only, including INSET days, and 5 additional working days across the year to support, for example, with transition from primary to secondary school, casework, catch-up days, and GCSE results days. The salary range is Bristol Grade 10 (BG10) currently £36,363 rising to £39,152 (gross per annum paid pro rata plus holiday pay). The post is subject to a 6-month probationary period, and the start date is subject to confirmation and satisfactory clearances.

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and so safeguarding checks will be conducted as part of the recruitment and selection process. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the successful applicant will be expected to undertake an enhanced Criminal Disclosure. We welcome applicants regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, or religion. It is an offence to apply for this role if the applicant is barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children. You can find a copy of our Safeguarding Policy on our website.

The School

St Mary Redcliffe and Temple (SMRT) is a successful and heavily oversubscribed 11-18 co-educational, Church of England, comprehensive school of over 1750 students, serving families from the whole of greater Bristol and beyond. The closing date is Monday 20 October 2025 (10am). Candidates must complete an application form and return it as a Word document by email to the address in our covering letter. Please ensure that you complete all parts of the application form, including the additional information section. It is particularly important that you include your personal details so that we can contact you. We recommend that you complete your application on a PC or laptop, and not on a mobile device.

When providing details of your referees you must include their e-mail address. References must span the last 5 years of employment history in accordance with KCSIE guidance.
