The Role

This key post as a permanent, part-time Music Teacher (between 0.70 and 0.80 FTE) is available from 2 September 2024.

We seek to appoint a talented teacher able to teach Music to KS3 and Music to KS4 (GCSE). The ability to teach Music and/or Music Technology to KS5 (A Level) is essential.

This post provides a unique opportunity to develop new skills in a school which has a compelling vision and deep commitment to providing exceptional teaching and learning.

We are passionate about providing opportunity for all staff to develop. The School invests heavily and productively in ensuring that staff and leaders have every opportunity to develop their expertise for the benefit of students. Professional development for staff is extremely well planned and implemented; it is linked closely to teachers’ targets for improvement.

The Department

The Music Department has a high profile in the school and throughout the city. We teach music at GCSE and A Level, and Music Technology at A Level. Results are consistently high at all key stages and many former students are now working professionally in the music industry. The school has a strong mixed voice Choir and many other instrumental groups, and the music department contributes to music at St Mary Redcliffe church, and to school theatrical performances. There are usually 15 annual school services requiring music, three large scale concerts, and a Musical each year, as well as frequent trips to concerts and a biennial overseas tour. In addition, we frequently collaborate with external partners both locally and nationally, recently including the BBC Singers, Ligeti Quartet, and the Gabrieli Consort.

The School

St Mary Redcliffe and Temple (SMRT) is a successful and heavily oversubscribed 11-18 co-educational, Church of England, comprehensive school of over 1750 students, serving families from the whole of greater Bristol and beyond. We are located at the heart of the city and have a diverse student community with considerable parental support. Our diversity is a strength and something we celebrate. The Redcliffe Sixth Form Centre currently houses approximately 700 students from our own school and from many other schools across the City.

Inspection Reports

The School was judged in April 2015 to be outstanding by Ofsted in each and every category. We were also judged outstanding in our last church school (SIAMS) inspection in March 2017. Despite this there is absolutely no sense of complacency. We are a forward-looking school with a relentless focus on providing the absolute best provision so that no child is left behind. Please see our website for additional information about SMRT.

Application Process

The closing date for receipt of application forms by my PA is by 10am Monday 15 April 2024.

To apply for this post you should complete the following, and return them direct to the email address in our covering letter:

• the Application Form which includes the additional information section. Please note the additional information section replaces the need for a covering letter.

• the Teaching Experience Sheet.

When providing details of your referees you must include their e-mail address. References must span the last 5 years of employment history in accordance with KCSIE guidance. Please include a referee from your current post (principal or headteacher) and if you have worked in multiple settings in this 5-year period, you should have included a referee from each setting.

If you do not receive a confirmation email by the end of Monday 15 March, please get in touch. We may call for references as part of our shortlisting process.
