Job Title: Pastoral Support Officer

Actual Annual Salary: £27,362 - £29,850

Full Time Equivalent Salary: £31,954 - £34,860 Grade D – full time – all year-round equivalent

Contract Type: Permanent

Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week, term time only + insets

Provisional Start Date: 18th May 2026

Hanham Woods Academy is looking for a Pastoral Support Officer, who will promote and safeguard students’ welfare and personal development. They will help to facilitate and

encourage a learning environment, which provides students with the opportunity to achieve their individual potential and have a positive school experience.

About you:

You will demonstrate:

  • A good understanding of safeguarding within an educational setting or transferable knowledge of safeguarding.
  • Experience of developing and maintaining good relationships with students and having appropriate contact with families and carers of children.
  • A keen interest in working with children and young people and a commitment to improving the life chances of students.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement through professional development, self-evaluation, and awareness.

Hanham Woods Academy is a secondary school located within the outskirts of Bristol and South Gloucestershire, delivering education to pupils aged 11-16. It is one of the most improved academies in the South West, providing an excellent education to over 800 students. The academy has a growing reputation both locally and regionally.
