The Role
This key post as a Science Teacher is available from 2 September 2024. This is a temporary, part-time post (0.70 to 0.80 FTE) to cover maternity leave. We expect the post holder to return in January 2025, but new opportunities may arise in Terms 1 and 2, for which the successful candidate will be well placed to apply.
We seek to appoint a talented teacher able to teach Science to KS3, and Combined Science to KS4 (GCSE). The ability to teach Biology to KS4 (GCSE) and to KS5 (A Level) is essential.
This post provides a unique opportunity to develop new skills in a school which has a compelling vision and deep commitment to providing exceptional teaching and learning.
The Department
The Science team seek to deliver lessons which challenge all students by using a full variety of teaching and learning strategies. The student lies at the heart of the assessment process, and we use a wide range of formative, evaluative, and summative approaches to support them in their learning. Science is a popular subject, and the department is a successful one and has been for many years. Students in recent years have gone on to study a Science or Medicine at top universities, including Oxbridge, and there is considerable support and encouragement for these students from the department. It is a friendly department with a well-qualified, committed team of subject specialists, who enjoy working collaboratively. The department is well supported with three technicians and has many dedicated rooms which are all situated together.
The School
St Mary Redcliffe and Temple (SMRT) is a successful and heavily oversubscribed 11-18 co-educational, Church of England, comprehensive school of over 1750 students, serving families from the whole of greater Bristol and beyond. We are located at the heart of the city and have a diverse student community with considerable parental support. Our diversity is a strength and something we celebrate. The Redcliffe Sixth Form Centre currently houses approximately 700 students from our own school and from many other schools across the City.
Inspection Reports
The School was judged in April 2015 to be outstanding by Ofsted in each and every category. We were also judged outstanding in our last church school (SIAMS) inspection in March 2017. Despite this there is absolutely no sense of complacency. We are a forward-looking school with a relentless focus on providing the absolute best provision so that no child is left behind.
Please see our website for additional information about SMRT.
