Leading English to drive further improvement

English at Ashton Park School is a beacon subject. In the last four years we have transformed our pedagogy, our curriculum and ultimately our outcomes. At KS4, our outcomes are some of the strongest in the school, with a positive P8 score demonstrating our students are working above the national average. Our curriculum (which you can see on our website) is rigorous and robust. Students are taught through carefully chosen themes that weave literature, poetry, non-fiction and creative writing, providing students with a curriculum that widens horizons, challenges and inspires a love of English.

We want someone whose visionary leadership ensures that English remains a beacon, and drives us to even greater success.

The successful candidate will be an effective and inspiring practitioner at KS3 and KS4 with a strong track record of planning and delivering engaging and ambitious lessons. KS5 experience is desirable as there is the potential to teach in our growing sixth form.

Ashton Park is growing great learners, great leaders and a great community

Ashton Park is an inclusive and oversubscribed school, with over 1200 students, set in the beautiful grounds of Ashton Court Estate in Bristol. Our school is in the top 3% of most improved schools in the country when you compare our 2023 GCSE results with those pre-pandemic. In October 2022, Ofsted graded us ‘Good’ in all areas, and we are proud they recognised that: ‘Pupils are happy to attend Ashton Park School. They enjoy their lessons and the range of opportunities the school provides for them. Staff know pupils well and want the best for them.’ The report also commented that ‘Lessons are purposeful and learning is rarely interrupted by poor behaviour.’

We are on a journey to excellence and have a mission to grow great learners, great leaders and a great community.

Through our Growing Great Learners framework, we guide and support staff to become excellent teachers, but we also give freedom and autonomy to allow practitioners to be the teacher they want to be in the classroom. We are committed to growing great leaders by providing high quality CPD and focusing on well-being in all the decisions we make. We are growing a great community by ensuring we focus on students, parents and the wider community through our strong culture and ethics. This is an exciting school to be a part of, one that prides itself on providing a happy and supportive environment for both students and staff.

We wish you the very best of luck with your application and hope to meet you soon!

Please be aware that we will review applications as we receive them and reserve the right to close this posting once suitable candidates have been found. We encourage you to submit your application as soon as possible in order to be considered.
