We are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate teacher of Geography to join Oasis Academy John Williams. You will have the skills to inspire and motivate our students to excel in the subject and to help shape them in becoming aspirational, informed, and compassionate global citizens as they gain a better understanding of the world around them and their role within it. You will inspire students to become active citizens through the delivery of an exciting and aspirational Oasis curriculum which interleaves physical and human geography, including units on natural hazards, cold environments, and the greatest threats to our planet.

Geography continues to be a very popular option at Key Stage 4 with x110 students in Year 11 and x145 in Year 10 following the GCSE AQA specification. You will be involved in the planning and delivery of fieldwork opportunities to the Bristol Harbourside and Lyme Regis to investigate the success of an urban regeneration project and a coastal management scheme. From September 2024, the Geography Department will also be offering a BTEC (Tech) Award in Travel and Tourism.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ECT or experienced teacher looking to make a difference to the lives of young people. There are a wide variety of CPD opportunities, including regular co-planning sessions with colleagues to plan, adapt and differentiate lesson resources as well as an established coaching programme. You will join a friendly and supportive team, whom strive to ensure that all students enjoy their learning and surpass expectations of achievement.

You also will be a Learning Mentor [Tutor] to our lovely young people, spending time with them daily and supporting them to thrive in both learning and life. We are proud of the relationships we develop with our students, and the Learning Mentor role is central to this!

We are housed in a modern new build [new build opened in September 2010] with a host of subject specialist rooms and in December 2016 we further enhanced our facilities with a state of the art AstroTurf and tartan-running strip. There are currently five Oasis secondary academies in Bristol (John Williams, Brislington & Brightstowe, Daventry Road & Temple Quarter. Our local family of schools forms part of the South West Region of Oasis Community Learning (OCL). OCL is a Multi-Academy Trust comprising 54 academies, working across England in five regions. As part of OCL, we enjoy the benefits that being part of a wider family of schools brings, both at a national and regional level.

We have a strong, supportive staff team committed to raising standards for all our students. Our centrally planned and knowledge-rich curriculum is implemented through evidence-based T&L, rooted in the science of learning and principles of Rosenshine. You will be at the forefront of education technology through the Oasis Horizons project which includes the use of 32GB 8th generation Wi-Fi enabled iPads by all staff and students.
