As the headteacher of Burtonwood Community Primary School, I would like to extend a very warm welcome to those looking to discover more about our wonderful school and I thank you for taking the time to explore our website. Burtonwood has a strong sense of community built over many years, even generations of families, supporting and trusting our school to provide an excellent education for local children. With the support of Omega Multi Academy Trust, I am very excited to be sharing the next stage of this journey.
During the course of the last year, Burtonwood Community Primary School has been through a period of transition and change, however, the fundamental values of the school and the commitment of our talented staff to provide an excellent education to all our pupils continues unabated. The sustained achievements of our school have been recognised and celebrated during our recent OFSTED inspection where we received a positive report. The continuing success of our school is due to the hard work, determination and drive for excellence of our whole school community.
As we enter the next phase of our journey, developing the knowledge and skills that our children require, delivered through a balanced and comprehensive curriculum, remains a priority. During the course of this academic year, we are introducing the High Performance Learning programme which encourages our children to recognise their strengths and areas for development, while at the same time creating a culture of high performance for each of our pupils. To support this, our curriculum has been designed to meet the requirements for each subject and will allow our children to experience a wide range of learning, further details of which are contained within this website.
Alongside excellent teaching and learning, we will provide all children with a various extended opportunities, the intent of which is to allow them to develop their talents, gifts and interests. Whether through opportunities to perform, display artwork within an exhibition, represent the school as part of a sports team or overcome a design challenge within our STEM work, each child will have the opportunity to discover and explore their passions.
A key part of our school’s ongoing development has been to make significant investment in improving our outdoor areas. The Reception setting has received a significant overhaul creating a purposeful and engaging environment for our pupils to learn. Work to resurface the playground areas is ongoing and plans are being drawn up to re-instate the forest school areas. The purpose of this investment is to provide the children of Burtonwood with an inspiring environment that enhances learning across the curriculum. Furthermore, it will encourage our students to develop organisational and leadership skills as they will play a key role in delivering these opportunities, for example as lunchtime play leaders. All of these experiences will prepare them for life after Burtonwood.
By sustaining and developing positive relationships across our school community, we will continue to provide our children with an excellent education. We will take every opportunity to celebrate these moments with our parents through the use of social media and via Seesaw. We will continue to arrange events where parents will be welcomed into school in order to share the children’s learning.
All are welcome at Burtonwood CP and I look forward to meeting with you over the course of the next academic year. If you would like to take a tour of our wonderful school or if I can help with any other matter, then please do not hesitate in contacting me via the school office.
Mr Jason Heatley
Headteacher
Welcome to Burtonwood Primary School, we are one-form entry, co-educational Primary School based in Northwest Warrington. Classes are arranged in year groups of usually no more than 30 ensuring a focused and nurturing environment for all.
Our school building features traditional classrooms, a central library, a computer suite and a main hall, complemented by three dedicated intervention rooms. The main school building has a quadrangle which is currently being converted into a new garden, which will give all children, alongside our eco-council, opportunity to grow a range of vegetables, fruits and plants.
We have a dedicated area for Reception class with purpose-built amenities and an exciting, outdoor provision area to promote their physical development and communication skills. The school also has extensive play areas and grounds, parts of which have been set aside and planted with trees as natural woodland areas. We have developed our largest woodland area – Willow Wood- into an exciting outdoor classroom area where we deliver forest school provision.
Our school is a proud member of the Omega Multi-Academy Trust family. This organisation is comprised of Alsop High School, Westbrook Old Hall Primary School, Chapelford Village Primary School, Park Road Community Primary School, Bradshaw Primary School and Great Sankey High School. The trust has a strong vision for collaboration across the schools within the trust, those located in Warrington and nationally. These strong partnerships ensure a smooth transition to secondary school, especially for the majority of Burtonwood children as they transition to Great Sankey High School in Year 7.
Over the course of the 2023-2024 academic year, we have been consulting with a number of different stakeholders to update the Values, Vision and Mission Statement to reflect the lived, daily experience of everyone here at Burtonwood Community Primary School- children and adults alike.
We spoke with parents, colleagues, members of the Local Governing Body, representatives of OMEGA MAT, and most importantly the children, in order to create characteristics for what we want our school to become, and the people we want to be.
Values
Our Values are represented by the following 'Burtonwood Be's'. These are the principles that we want our children to understand, explain and demonstrate how we live these virtues within our school and the wider community.
The Burtonwood Be’s
Be Prepared, Be Respectful, Be Engaged, Be Brave
Our Mission Statement
We are a learning community that creates an environment of mutual respect, working in partnership to prepare for any challenges that the future may hold. We actively engage in learning, recognising that failure leads to success and that being brave encourages us to take risks and allow the unexpected.
Our Vision is to become…
An exceptional school that provides our pupils with a diverse range of learning opportunities that are fun yet challenging, helping us to develop a deep knowledge of the world around us.
A diverse community that welcomes all and encourages our children to play a full and active role as global citizens.
Well prepared for each stage of life, respectful in our interactions with others, engaged in all aspects of education and brave in our beliefs and convictions.
If you are a school thinking about joining us and would like to find out more about what we can offer, we would be very happy to meet with you to discuss options and opportunities. We can arrange a visit to any of our schools so you can meet with key members of staff or you can meet any member of our Executive Team to talk about our service offers.
