The Pastoral & Safeguarding Lead will provide high-quality, impartial and solution-focused pastoral support and guidance to children and their families. They will serve as the academy’s additional point of contact with a responsibility for safeguarding and child protection, ensuring full compliance with statutory requirements.
The postholder will support students in achieving their full potential by raising aspirations and promoting academic progress. They will work closely with staff, parents and carers to strengthen parental capacity, enhance understanding of children’s needs, improve family relationships, and increase engagement with the academy.
In addition, the postholder will lead the development and implementation of safeguarding policies, procedures, guidance, and training across the academy. They will evaluate the effectiveness of training, ensure ongoing compliance with statutory expectations, and help embed a strong safeguarding culture throughout the organisation.

About you:
You will have:
- An understanding of safeguarding policies and procedures and the importance of safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults.
- Excellent standard of oral and written communication skills and ability to understand and convey complex needs and information
- Proven experience working with young people and their families in education or a related area such as youth, community or health and social work.
- Practical experience of working with parents one-to-one and experience of providing support to families in their own home.
- An AS/A level or equivalent qualification.
- Good literacy and numeracy skills.
- Full, clean driving licence or ability to travel to other sites or for home visits

About the Airfield Primary Academy:
Airfield Primary Academy is a brand‑new primary school opening in September 2026 on the former Weston Airfield site in Haywood Village, Weston-Super-Mare. The school will serve the local community of Haywood Village, a growing development of around 6,500 homes, and will form an integral part of the area’s educational provision.
The academy will open initially with 30 Reception pupils, growing year by year to accommodate up to 630 pupils when full. In addition, the site will include a 102‑place nursery offering all‑year‑round provision for children aged 2–4, with separate access and a dedicated kitchen.
The purpose‑built school will be set within extensive outdoor spaces designed to support learning and play, including nature areas, grass and all‑weather sports pitches and shared community sports facilities. These resources will help establish the academy as a vibrant hub for both education and community life.
