Step into the classroom and make a real difference as a Cover Supervisor at Hanham Woods Academy, inspiring students and supporting their learning every day

We are seeking a confident, adaptable and committed Cover Supervisor to join our supportive and talented team at Hanham Woods Academy. As part of a diverse and ambitious multi-academy trust, we are dedicated to delivering high-quality education and improving outcomes and life chances for every student.

This is a varied and rewarding role where you will play a vital part in ensuring continuity of learning across the academy. You will supervise whole classes or small groups during the short-term absence of the timetabled teacher, whether planned or unplanned. You will deliver pre-prepared work, ensuring students understand the tasks set, remain engaged in their learning and meet the expectations of the lesson. A key aspect of the role is maintaining a positive, purposeful learning environment by managing behaviour effectively and promoting high standards of conduct and engagement.

Beyond classroom cover, you will contribute more broadly to student success. When not covering lessons, you will support teaching and learning across the academy, working with individuals and groups of students, including those with additional needs. You may also contribute to interventions, exam invigilation and other student-facing responsibilities. You will work collaboratively with teaching staff, providing clear and constructive feedback following lessons to support continuity and progression in learning.

You will build strong, professional relationships with both students and colleagues, supporting a culture of high expectations, inclusion and respect. The role requires the ability to respond to challenges with confidence and professionalism, adapt to changing priorities and contribute positively to the wider life of the academy

About you:

You will:

  • Have experience of working with children and young people and a genuine passion for supporting their development
  • Be confident in managing classroom behaviour and creating a calm, focused learning environment
  • Be able to quickly assimilate information and deliver pre-prepared lesson content effectively
  • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain tasks clearly and provide accurate feedback
  • Have good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks and work effectively under pressure
  • Build positive and professional relationships with students, teachers and wider staff
  • Hold a minimum of five GCSEs (or equivalent), including English and Maths at grade C/4 or above, with strong literacy and numeracy skills
  • Have an understanding of learning processes, barriers to learning and behaviour management strategies
  • Be able to remain calm under pressure, using sound judgement to respond to challenging situations
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and a professional approach to working with sensitive information
  • Ideally hold a relevant Level 3 qualification and have a basic knowledge and understanding of the curriculum
  • Be committed to safeguarding, inclusion and improving outcomes for all students
  • Show a proactive approach to professional development and continuous improvement

Applicants are advised to refer to the full requirements of the role in the attached job description and person specification, prior to submitting an application.
