Head of Year

Permanent, Full Time

We are looking for a passionate and inspiring Head of Year to join our talented team at Tewkesbury Academy. We are an ambitions organisation on a journey to promote equity in education and transform students’ learning. We are excited to be entering our second year working as part of the Cabot Learning Federation. As the only secondary school in our town, we are proud of our status as a true comprehensive and delight in the strong relationships we have with our community.

As Head of Year, you will be responsible for the well-being, behaviour and progress of approximately 200 students. You will direct and lead your team of 8 tutors as they deliver the tutor programme, provide well-being support, drive academic progress and build strong relationships with their tutees. You will promote high attendance and punctuality with your cohort, be confident delivering assemblies, organising events and working with parents and colleagues to support our young people to be ready, responsible and respectful individuals. You will work closely with our DSL and be supported in your duties by a non-teaching pastoral manager.

Our Heads of Year have teaching responsibilities and we welcome applicants from all subject specialisms, with maths, science, English and business being areas that we are particularly interested in recruiting. You will be used to planning and consistently delivering high quality lessons, will have experience in delivering the curriculum in your chosen area and will be a strong communicator with the ability to embrace change and motivate colleagues and students. A well-qualified specialist, holding QTS (or equivalent) and a relevant undergraduate degree, you will have the ability to teach Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5. We look for professionals who have excellent class management skills and have high expectations of work and behaviour.

The young people at Tewkesbury Academy are our finest ambassadors exemplifying hard work, kindness and good manners. They benefit from a hugely positive and supportive learning environment housed in a wonderful campus with great facilities and grounds. You will have the opportunity to work alongside outstanding teachers, to observe and share practice on a regular basis, developing pedagogy through reflection.

Tewkesbury Academy is a well-established school at the heart of the historic market town of Tewkesbury providing an education to a cohort of 1200 plus students, aged 11-18. We are well placed at Junction 9 of the M5 and close to the Cotswolds, the Malvern Hills and the historic towns of Gloucester, Worcester and Cheltenham.

Within the academy and as part of the Cabot Learning Federation, we can offer you the opportunity to advance your career within a supportive environment. We provide excellent training and development opportunities within the Federation, including a full induction programme for early career and experienced teachers. Training is both local and/or delivered through our excellent stand-alone training facility at the CLF Institute. For teachers, the CLF Institute aims to provide a continuum of development through each career stage from initial teacher training (ITT), for Early Career Teachers (ECT), recently qualified teachers in their early career development, to successive stages of leadership through to Headship and beyond.

The Cabot Learning Federation is a diverse Multi-Academy Trust (MAT) in the South West. We currently sponsor ten secondary academies, nine primary academies, an all through provision, a studio school, a discrete Post 16 provision and an alternative provision which consists of one primary and three secondary phases.
