Job Title: Breakfast/Afterschool Playworker

Actual Annual Salary: £3,785 - £3,897 (Equivalent to £12.86 - £13.24 per hour)

Full Time Equivalent Salary: £24,819 - £25,548 (CLF Grade Aii) Based on 37 hours per week, all year round.

Contract: Permanent, Part Time Term Time Only

Hours: 6.75

Provisional Start Date: September 2026

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Playworker to join our team, providing a safe and engaging environment for children. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with young children, demonstrating strong leadership skills and the ability to communicate effectively with both children and parents. This role is essential in supporting children's development through play and structured activities in a primary setting.

Duties

  • Manage daily activities and routines to ensure a safe and stimulating environment for children.
  • Communicate effectively with children, encouraging their participation in play and learning activities.
  • Supervise children during playtime, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
  • Plan and implement engaging activities that promote physical, social, and emotional development.
  • Foster positive relationships with children, parents, and colleagues to create a supportive community.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the play area, ensuring all equipment is safe and suitable for use.
  • Collaborate with other staff members to support the overall objectives of the nursery.

About you:

You will:

  • have an understanding of the varied needs of children and families
  • have an appropriate First Aid qualification or willingness to undertake training
  • have strong interpersonal skills, in particular demonstrates empathy and active listening
  • be able to deal with inappropriate behaviour in a calm and non-judgemental way, following academy guidance
  • be patient, calm and able to work under pressure

Redstart Primary School is a two-form entry primary academy, located in Chard, Somerset, taking children from Nursery to Year 6.
