We are looking for a talented, hard-working and motivated individual to join us as a Head of Faculty for Technologies.

This role would suit an existing head of department searching for a leadership position across more than one department or an experienced leader looking for a fresh challenge.

Caldicot School is an 11-18 co-educational comprehensive serving the local and wider community. The school has over 1300 students and is situated between Chepstow and Newport, with easy access via the M4 corridor and on the northern side of the Severn Estuary.

The school is at an exciting stage in its history. In September 2017, the school moved to a new £36m purpose-built site and now boasts some of the finest facilities in the country. Over the last two and a half years, there has been a significant number of changes at the school which has supported rapid improvements in provision and outcomes. This includes a new staffing structure, with clear career progression routes for staff, as well as a refined curriculum, designed to strengthen knowledge, understanding and skills. This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward-thinking school. Our students take part in a broad range of activities that help them become "well-rounded" and the school's commitment to a values-driven education helps shape students to become positive role models in our society.

About the role

We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated, well organised and ambitious Head of Faculty for Technologies. As a faculty, Technologies offers all students various disciplines within Design Technology and Information Technology up to the end of year 8. In year 9, students have the choice to opt for Food Preparation and Nutrition, Engineering and Textiles within Design Technology and Computer Science and Information Communication Technology (ICT). The faculty of technologies is popular at Caldicot School. Standards at all key stages are consistently strong especially at key stage 4. In 2022, in BTEC Engineering, 50% of students achieved the equivalent to an A*-A grade with 95% of students achieving the equivalent of an A*-C grade. At GCSE in Textiles, 57% of students achieved an A*-A with 93% achieving A*-C and 65% of students achieving A*-C in Food Prep and Nutrition. At Post-16, Engineering is popular and outcomes are also strong with 44% of students achieving the equivalent to A*-A and 89% achieving A*-C. In Computer Science at key stage 5, 50% of students achieved an A*-A with 75% of students achieving A*-C. At key stage 4, 26% achieved A*-A with 70% achieving A*-C. In IT at key stage 4, 4% of students achieved A*-A with 58% achieving A*-C.

The design technology department and information technology department are situated within their own designated areas of the school site. All classrooms and specialist rooms are equipped with up-to-date technology including interactive boards and visualizers and the necessary equipment for a broad and exciting experience. The school has five purpose fitted IT suites. The successful applicant would be joining a dedicated team of specialist teachers across both the design technology and information technology departments. All teaching staff are also issued with a school laptop. All new members of staff receive a strong programme of induction, which includes an allocated member of staff to support with the operational elements of joining a new school, as well as a tailored development package to meet individual needs.
