Over the last 50 years, Capel Manor College has helped thousands of school leavers and adults achieve their dream of working with animals, plants and the environment. As London’s environmental college, the College plays a vital role in the green agenda for the capital, equipping the next generation of land-based sector workers with the skills and knowledge needed to preserve and protect London’s wildlife, national parks and green spaces.

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Capel Manor College and we are now seeking to appoint a part-time Tree Surgeon and Instructor.

The post holder will work closely with the College gardens team to maintain a high standard of tree management within the college woodlands, farm and arboretum of tree works. In addition, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing instruction to students on our Arboriculture courses. This will involve teaching them hands-on skills, such as how to operate, maintain and use machinery and equipment and demonstrating how to carry out tree surgery and maintenance.

The ideal candidate will have experience working within the arboriculture industry and have a minimum of a Level 3 Diploma in Arboriculture and Forestry or equivalent. They will have relevant industrial tickets such as tree felling and processing awards, chainsaw maintenance and cross cutting award, and the tree climbing and aerial rescue award. They will be comfortable demonstrating a rage of practical topics to learners of different abilities, including but not limited to tree felling, climbing, rigging, chainsaw usage, wood chipper usage, and practical tree work skills including pruning. The role would suit an experienced arborist looking for a change of direction and who can inspire the next generation.

You will supported to become a NPTC assessor and LANRA instructor and will be supported to keep up to date with latest industry techniques.

We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, as well as the opportunity to work in a supportive, collaborative and beautiful land-based environment.

In order to be considered for the position, an application form must be completed. CVs will not be accepted. For further details and to apply, please visit the job vacancies section on the Capel Manor College website.

Please note that the College does not have a sponsorship licence. We are therefore unable to consider applicants who do not have the right to work in the UK.

We reserve the right to close a position once sufficient suitable applications have been received to form a short list. Early application is therefore encouraged.

What’s in it for you?

We offer the opportunity to help develop your skills and knowledge in a friendly team environment, plus a range of benefits including generous annual leave, a defined benefit pension scheme (Teacher’s Pension Scheme for Lecturing roles and Local Government Pension Scheme for Support roles), employee assistance programme and full access to Capel Manor Gardens.
