Specialist Resource Base Teacher
September 2026
MPS/UPS/ALN
Pencaerau Primary School is a school at the heart of its community, with high aspirations for all learners. The school has a strong and well established culture of inclusive practice, where every child is valued, supported and encouraged to succeed.
From September 2026, we will be expanding our Specialist Resource Base (SRB) as part of Cardiff Council’s expansion of provision for pupils with Additional Learning Needs (ALN). The SRB supports primary aged pupils with complex learning needs from across Cardiff. Following the success of our existing provision, the SRB will grow from 10 to 20 places, reflecting the quality, impact and increasing demand for this specialist support.
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced teacher to join our committed team within the Specialist Resource Base. This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and passionate professional to work closely with pupils, families, the ALNCo, Cardiff Council services and a range of multi agency professionals to support pupils with complex learning needs.
The successful post holder will be responsible for delivering high quality teaching and learning within the SRB, contributing to an inclusive and nurturing environment that promotes pupils’ development, progress and well being. Our ethos of “Learning for Life” underpins all that we do, ensuring pupils develop academically, socially, emotionally and personally, and are well prepared for life beyond the classroom.
Pupils attending the SRB will access a specialist curriculum tailored to meet individual needs, underpinned by a sensory based, developmental approach, rather than age related expectations. At Pencaerau, pupils experience an environment that promotes belonging, independence and resilience, supported through strong partnerships between school, families, the local authority and external professionals. We are proud of our inclusive identity and our shared ambition to help every learner thrive.
A strong commitment to play based and experiential learning, both indoors and outdoors, is essential, alongside secure knowledge of supporting and implementing Individual Development Plans (IDPs) in line with the ALN Code for Wales.
This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
This vacancy is suitable for post share.
Under the Teaching and Higher Education Act 1998 and the Teachers (Compulsory Registration) (Wales) Regulations 2000, all teachers employed in maintained schools must be registered with the Education Workforce Council (EWC).
