Cardiff High School is seeking to appoint a Temporary Teacher of French for a maternity cover.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a thriving department in an extremely successful school. We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, ambitious and innovative teacher of French who can make a significant contribution to this very successful department. We are interested both in teachers who are new to the profession, and also in more experienced colleagues, who are perhaps wishing to relocate or seeking to gain experience in another school. We would be happy to discuss any implications of such a move.
At the heart of Cardiff, Cardiff High School is a friendly, highly qualified, hardworking and committed team of staff, and you will be offered a very warm welcome should you come to join us. Cardiff High School is an over-subscribed 11–18 neighbourhood community comprehensive school that forms part of the Cardiff Schools Service. Our current school population stands at 1665 with an eight form entry each year. 460 students make up our sixth form cohort and significant numbers of students from outside of Cardiff High choose to join us for their A level studies. The school lies in a very pleasant residential area about 2 miles north of the City Centre, and has a multi-cultural school population. We are a genuine comprehensive, bringing together and supporting pupils from a very wide range of backgrounds. The school has extensive facilities to support both learning and teaching and also extra-curricular activities. These include well equipped classrooms, sports, music and drama facilities and access to technology.
We have high aspirations for our students, both academically and in supporting them to develop the skills and attitudes necessary to flourish in an increasingly competitive and complex world. We are equally committed to ensuring that our pupils enjoy school, develop friendships and experience meaningful opportunities which they can learn from and will remember. Cardiff High is a very successful school and consistently achieves outstanding examination results at both GCSE and A level. In 2018, 97% of Year 11 students achieved at least 5 A* to C grades at GCSE with an exceptional 89% including English and Mathematics. 46% of students achieved at least 5 A* to A grades and nearly 40% of all grades awarded were at A* to A. The school enjoyed similar academic success at A level with 100% of students achieving the level 3 threshold, 24% achieving at least 3 A* to A grades and 74% achieving at least 3 A* to C grades. All of our Y13 leavers secured university or work places with 78 Cardiff High students going on to Russell Group Universities.
However, we are not complacent. We believe firmly in the principle of continuous improvement and this Learning Together philosophy applies as much to our teachers as it does to our pupils. As a school, we are wholeheartedly committed to continuous professional learning and believe that our success is intrinsically linked to the classroom practice of our teachers. In the last few years, Cardiff High School has been at the forefront of school-to-school work, developing professional learning models and forming partnerships with other institutions. Cardiff High is a Professional Learning Pioneer and a Curriculum Pioneer, working with Welsh Government on developing the New Curriculum for Wales. Currently we are a Professional Learning Hub focusing on pedagogical and leadership development across the region. The school also has a number of Curriculum Hubs and Lead Practitioners who provide subject specialist leadership guidance and support. We are an accredited Olevi Centre of Excellence, running the full Olevi suite of leadership, coaching and learning and teaching programmes. As a result, teachers in Cardiff High have access to top quality professional learning opportunities. In addition, the school offers numerous opportunities to develop both curriculum and pastoral leadership.
If you would like to discuss this opportunity further, have any questions or would like to visit the school, please feel free to contact Nicola O’Neil for an appointment.
