Cardiff High School are seeking to appoint a teacher of Physics

This Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join a thriving department in an extremely successful school. We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, ambitious and innovative teacher of Physics who can make a significant contribution to this very successful department. The successful candidate would be required to contribute to the teaching of integrated science at KS3 and specialise in Physics at KS4 and KS5. An ability to offer more than one science up to KS4 would be an advantage. We are interested both in teachers who are relatively new to the profession, and also in more experienced colleagues, who are perhaps wishing to relocate or seeking to gain experience in another school. The successful candidate would enjoy access to a comprehensive induction programme and high quality continuous professional learning.

At the heart of Cardiff High is a friendly, highly qualified, hardworking and committed team of staff, and you will be offered a very warm welcome should you come to join us. Cardiff High School is an over-subscribed 11–18 neighbourhood community comprehensive school that forms part of the Cardiff Schools Service. Our current school population stands at around 1800 with an eight form entry in years 7-11. Over 600 students make up our sixth form cohort and significant numbers of students from outside Cardiff High choose to join us for their A level studies. The school lies in a very pleasant residential area about 2 miles north of the city centre, and has a multi-cultural school population. We are a genuine comprehensive, bringing together and supporting pupils from a very wide range of backgrounds. The school has extensive facilities to support learning and teaching and also extra-curricular activities. These include well equipped classrooms, sports, music and drama facilities and access to technology.

We have high aspirations for our students, both academically and in supporting them to develop the skills and attitudes necessary to flourish in an increasingly competitive and complex world. We are equally committed to ensuring that our pupils enjoy school, develop friendships and experience meaningful opportunities which they can learn from and will remember. Cardiff High is a very successful school and consistently achieves outstanding examination results at both GCSE and A level. In 2025, 93% of Year 11 students achieved at least 5 A* to C grades at GCSE with an exceptional 88% including English and Mathematics. 63% of students achieved at least 5 A* to A grades and 55% of all grades awarded were at A* to A. The school enjoyed similar academic success at A level with 46% of grades awarded being A* to A and 87% being A* to C. All of our Y13 leavers secured university, college or work places with significant numbers of Cardiff High students going on to Russell Group Universities.

However, we are not complacent. We believe firmly in the principle of continuous improvement and this Learning Together philosophy applies as much to our teachers as it does to our pupils. As a school, we are wholeheartedly committed to continuous professional learning and believe that our success is intrinsically linked to the classroom practice of our teachers. In the last few years, Cardiff High School has been at the forefront of school to school work, developing professional learning models and forming partnerships with other institutions.

Cardiff High School is constantly striving to be a highly effective learning organisation where professional learning, collaboration and development opportunities are at the heart of its ethos and culture. The school delivers a range of both regional and national professional learning programmes and is also a designated Olevi centre of excellence offering a full suite of leadership, coaching and learning and teaching professional learning opportunities. As a result, teachers in Cardiff High have access and an entitlement to continue to develop as effective practitioners through a wide array of professional development opportunities. In addition, the school offers numerous opportunities to develop both curriculum and pastoral leadership. A copy of the most recent full inspection report can be found on the school website along with other sources of more recent information about life in Cardiff High, including the most recent Headteacher’s Report to Governors and school newsletters.
