We are seeking to appoint a qualified, creative and enthusiastic Head of Science who is passionate about
Science and determined to make a difference. The post is a permanent contract.
The school has been through change in recent years including joining the Lighthouse Schools Partnership
(LSP) Multi Academy Trust alongside several our feeder schools and Gordano and Backwell secondary
schools.
The school has a distinctive character and ethos which is unashamedly child-centred and emotionally
intelligent in the way relationships are managed between staff, parents, students, and governors. The
school has a House system at the heart of its culture with vertical tutoring as a key facilitator. There are
four houses - Bilbie, Hauteville, Moreton and Rodney.
The successful candidate will be a highly ambitious and outstanding teacher who wishes to further develop
their career. The post holder will be highly driven and motivated to lead and continually improve the
Science Department.
The Science Department has a good balance of specialists and want to maintain an excellent tradition of
specialist teaching for the separate sciences.
Science has a very high profile at Chew Valley School. A level teaching is a particularly important part of
our teaching and many of our sixth formers go on to study Science at Russell Group Universities. The
Science Department makes a significant contribution to STEM education and there are many opportunities
provided for linking education in science to practical applications in the world of work and research.
The Science Department is an extremely friendly one with a range of experience and expertise, supported
by a dedicated Lab Assistant team.
