Lead Teacher of Science – required for autumn term 2025 (26th August 2025)

Main / Upper Pay Scale + TLR2A (£3,391) + SEN1 (£2,679)

The Children’s Hospital School meets the needs of children who are unable to attend their own school due to ill health in a number of provisions across the region. We are looking to appoint an outstanding practitioner who is able to lead science up to GCSE level across all areas of the school, with the role being primarily based at our Willow Bank site in Leicester.

We are seeking a committed, caring, flexible and resilient professional to complement the work of a truly exceptional team. You will be an inspirational teacher and leader who is uncompromising in the pursuit of improving standards in the education and support of children with medical needs.

You will be taking on this post at an exciting time and will be able to make a significant contribution to the future direction and development of this unique learning environment, including whole-school teaching and learning alongside the lead teachers of Maths and English. You will have access to superb continuing professional development opportunities and on-going career development support, including membership of the Chartered College of Teaching and in-school pedagogical coaching.

The successful candidate will:

• have a natural passion and enthusiasm for science with an ability and proven track record of raising attainment up to GCSE level

• be an outstanding leader with the energy to inspire, motivate and challenge students and staff alike

• have knowledge and understanding of evidence-led teaching and learning strategies

• be creative and dynamic in the classroom at all key stages

• have the skills to form excellent working relationships with students, staff, parents, governors and medical professionals

• have an appetite for change, innovation and the development of new ways to engage young people with medical needs

• be able to effectively monitor key performance indicators and understand how data can be used to inform planning, intervention and school improvement

• make a significant contribution to the wider life of the school

• have the desire and potential to further develop their leadership skills within the school
