Teaching Assistant - Hearing Impairment

From 1 September 2022 @ Rushy Meadow Primary Academy

Hours: 8:30 am to 3:30 pm (45 Minute unpaid break) 31.25 hrs pw

Monday to Friday - Term Time plus 2 inset days.

Grade 4/5 Scale Point: 7 to 15 (FTE £22,995 to £26,520).

Actual Salary £16,892. 14 to £19,481.61 (Term Time plus 2 Inset days)

Rushy Meadow is a friendly 2-form entry school which is rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted. We have a Hearing Impaired Resource Base where children who have a significant hearing loss are supported in mainstream education by Specialist TAs and through Teacher of the Deaf support.

Rushy Meadow Primary Academy are seeking to employ a Specialist Teaching Assistant to work with our hearing impaired pupils.

The HI Teaching Assistant’s primary focus will be to work under the professional guidance of the class teacher/Teacher of the Deaf (ToD), within an agreed system of supervision, to support hearing impaired pupils in mainstream lessons using a Total Communication (TC) approach and to deliver specific interventions, e.g. speech and language therapy. The suitable person will need at least level 2 BSL or be willing to undertake a BSL level 1 and 2 training course (the cost of which will be covered by the Trust) and able to use a mixture of BSL, SSE and spoken language to communicate with and support the learning of identified pupils.
