We are seeking to employ an enthusiastic and proficient technician to provide essential support for the school’s highly achieving Science Faculty. You will give a practical, technical service to members of the teaching staff through the preparation and provision of equipment, apparatus and chemicals for experiments and demonstrations.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate their ability to work effectively within a team, and under their own initiative. Although a sound scientific knowledge, experience of handling and preparing chemicals, and assembling apparatus could be advantageous, this is not essential as full training will be provided if you are enthusiastic about science and keen to learn.

Working within a team of experienced technicians, and under the guidance of a Senior Technician, you will support students aged 11 to 19 in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Health and Safety will be a key part of your role, and you may also carry out Portable Appliance Testing within the Science Faculty; training for this and other aspects of the role will be provided where appropriate.

Commonweal School is a forward-looking single status academy striving for academic excellence. We seek to provide a high level of support and professional development for all staff. We are committed to realising our aim, which is to be known as a provider of high-quality education for all our students, achieved by focusing on teaching and learning and the performing arts. We have two Specialist Resource Provisions, one for Physical Disabilities and one for Specific Learning Difficulties, both of which are an integral part of Commonweal life.

From September 2014 our Sixth Form provision has enhanced and extended the school’s excellent curriculum, creating significant opportunities for up to 300 students to achieve their potential. Based in a purpose built three storey centre it offers an outstanding environment in which our students can succeed and grow, within a warm, caring and creative atmosphere.
