Job Title: Room Leader

Salary: CSET 11, £12.18 per hour

Hours: 12 hours per week (Monday - Friday)

Contract Type: Casual/Permanent

Location: Cherry Gardens Primary School ( BS30 6JH) and Lyde Green Primary School (BS16 7LH)


We are looking for a passionate and creative Room Leader to join our before and after school club team, covering various sites within our Trust. This is a permanent contract and you’ll be working a Tuesday and Thursday at Cherry Gardens, whilst the other hours will be supporting the team at Lyde Green.


As a member of the team, you will gain valuable experience assisting the delivering a wide range of engaging and participative childcare activities; working with children from ages 4 - 11.

This is a demanding but very rewarding role suited to someone who has relevant experience of working alongside children. You should be self-motivated, have good communication skills and be able to engage with children positively.

You will have a Level 3 qualification in Play-work or Early Years and an understanding of the issues involved in the delivery of quality play care; and demonstrable experience of providing and facilitating safe and creative play.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Oversee the running of the club, including the Play Assistants
  • Plan and deliver safe activities with groups of children from all class ranges
  • Engage with children encouraging them to participate in activities to promote learning and social development
  • Support children on a 1:1 basis who have complex needs (if required)
  • Encourage fair and caring behaviour among the children
  • Encourage independence and self-esteem
  • Ensure safety and safeguarding procedures are adhered to ensure children are kept safe
  • Keep up to date knowledge of School policies including but not limited to GDPR and Behavior policies
  • Assist with food preparation for serving breakfast and afterschool snacks


You will report into Kate Cole, Play Manager and please feel free to contact her for an informal chat to discuss the role further. You may want to visit the school and have a look at the playroom and find out a bit more about what the Play Assistants do.
