We are seeking a number of Teaching Assistants with Care Duties to join our team

Supporting education in our specialist school and college.

A Teaching Assistant with Care Duties role is very different from a mainstream TA position. During the

school week, you will be supporting students, age 5-19, with severe social communication difficulties, complex learning

disabilities and often challenging behaviours to access therapy based education. Outside school time, you will be

supporting our young people to aspire to independence through the development of life-skills. You will be trained to

develop the skills and confidence to help some of society’s most vulnerable individuals to achieve their potential and to

prepare them for adult life. Some of our students may need personal care. You don’t need experience to apply. You

do need empathy and compassion, physical and mental resilience and the drive to make a real difference to the lives of

our young people.

Education term time school hours are 36 per week: Monday 08.30-16.00, Tuesday - Thursday 08.30 – 16.15 and Friday

08.30 – 15.45. Care hours are by rota worked outside of the education day - during breakfast or evening shifts,

weekends or school holidays and will be allocated via the prescribed care rota in line with the needs of the care team,

typically 7am-2pm or 2pm-9pm (weekends and holidays). Remuneration for Care hours will be by submission of

timesheet when worked and paid in month following. Own transport is desirable due to semi-rural location.

What are we looking for?

• Literacy and Numeracy Skills: you will need to support the students in their learning and be able to read, understand and complete medication forms, risk assessments and student reports and records.

• Communication skills: you need to be able to communicate effectively with children, families and professionals.

• Patience: you will need to adapt to the pace of each individual young person and be able to remain calm when

faced with anxious, emotional or frustrated behaviours, some of which would be deemed unacceptable

elsewhere.

Apply today if you think you would be the right candidate for this role.

** CANDIDATES MUST BE ABLE TO DRIVE DUE TO SCHOOL LOCATION
