Overview

Ewhurst Church of England Infant School is a nurturing, happy and calm environment in which children are encouraged to develop their emotional well being and achieve high academic success through a creative and challenging curriculum.

Our aim is to ensure all pupils develop skills, knowledge and a strong moral code to prepare them for the next stage in their education.  We believe that every child deserves a successful future and it begins at Ewhurst, where learning through purposeful and planned activities is fun, and success is achieved for all.

We are delighted to be the only dedicated Infant School in the area where all children know and support each other, and all children are known by every member of staff.  We firmly believe that the first three years of a child's education shape his or her future, and that this should not be compromised.

WELCOME FROM THE HEADTEACHER

It is an honour and a privilege for me to lead such a magnificent village school, which has existed in our community for over 175 years. I am ably supported by a wonderful staff team at the school, who are dedicated and committed in their pursuit of the school vision of 'flourishing together, rooted in God's love.' Everyone flourishes here at Ewhurst, not just academically, but also socially, culturally, mentally and spiritually. Inspired by this vision, we have made our mission clear: to create a safe, nurturing environment and equip pupils with the knowledge they need to prepare them for the next stage in their education. We see the first three years of schooling as a crucial time to develop a genuine love for learning among the children. It's a little like buttoning up a shirt: if you get the first button right, the rest follows effortlessly! We love to see our pupils skipping into school every morning, hungry to learn, curious to explore and ready to embrace new challenges.

If you have not visited the school, please come and see for yourself! We would be delighted to welcome you in person and would count it an honour if you decided to join our friendly parent community. Our amazing office team can be reached on 01483 277291.

With best wishes,

Jonathan Walters

About Us

‘Christian faith must be like a tree, reaching to heaven and rooted in love’.

Visions and Values

Our vision at Ewhurst Infant School is to create a safe and nurturing Christian community which will equip all pupils, through an inspiring and aspirational curriculum, to develop skills and knowledge, a strong moral code and a deepening understanding of the Christian faith to prepare them for life as global citizens. This is summed up in our motto: flourishing together, rooted in God’s love. Ephesians 3:17-18 (GNT) says: "I pray that you may have your roots and foundation in love, so that you, together with all God's people, may have the power to understand how broad and long, how high and deep, is Christ's love."

Our vision is underpinned by our six Christian values of friendship, respect, honesty, perseverance, community and love.

We believe that every child deserves a successful future and it begins at Ewhurst, where learning through purposeful and well-planned activities is enjoyable for all and accessible to everyone. Our desire is to see pupils become happy, confident and independent learners. Our curriculum is carefully sequenced to ensure there is a clear development of knowledge and skills. We offer enhanced learning opportunities, such as a Forest School activities and on-site swimming instruction, as well as a popular extra-curricular programme of clubs which helps children develop their own gifts and talents. Wherever possible, we seek outdoor learning opportunities, making the most of our location in the beautiful Surrey Hills.

We are an inclusive school, making provision where necessary for pupils with special educational needs. We have two highly experienced Emotional Literacy Support Assistants (ELSAs), who are on site every day to offer positive encouragement, nurture and emotional support to pupils. Our constant drive to is bring out the very best in every child, celebrating their achievements and establishing strong roots that set them up for their life ahead.

The education of children is a shared responsibility between school and parents and we at Ewhurst are eager to do all we can to encourage the sense of partnership that is necessary to ensure the very best for our children. Governors play an active role in the school, and we also have a dynamic and enthusiastic Parent Teacher Association who arrange social and fundraising events. Our partnerships extend well beyond the parent community: as a voluntary aided Church of England school we have strong links with our ecclesiastical parish, in particular our local parish church of St. Peter & St. Paul (which is a one-minute walk from our school!) and the Diocese of Guildford. We also participate actively in networks with other local schools and receive outstanding support from external partners such as the Schools Alliance for Excellence (SAfE), English and Maths Hubs.

Our school values

Our distinctive Christian vision is expressed and outworked through 6 core values. Each of these has a clear theological underpinning that marks us as a Church of England school.

Love

1 Corinthians 13:4-8 "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails."

We teach children the importance of love in action and the positive impact this has on others.

Friendship

Luke 6: 31 "Do unto others as you would have them do to you."

We emphasise the value of friendship and help children understand what it means to be a good friend.

Perseverance

Galatians 6:9. "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap harvest if we do not give up."

We want every child to be resilient and face the challenges of life with courage and confidence.

Respect

Philippians 2:3 "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourself."

We consider mutual respect and tolerance of others' ideas, preferences and beliefs as one of the core British values.

Honesty

2 Corinthians 8:21. "For we are taking pains to do what is right, not only in the eyes of the Lord but also in the eyes of man."

We consider honesty as a key element of good character.

Community

1 John 7:1 "But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light we have fellowship with one another."

We teach children the importance of being part of a caring community with common values and how this unity makes us stronger.
