Are you an experienced, caring teaching assistant who wants to help pupils with special educational needs and disabilities make progress and build skills for life?
Exeter House School is seeking a Senior Teaching Assistant to support pupils’ learning, development and well-being. Working under the direction of a qualified teacher or lead professional, you’ll deliver and adapt learning activities for individuals, small groups and whole classes. You’ll help pupils access the curriculum, develop their independence and prepare for their next steps in education or employment.
About the role
You’ll work closely with teachers, therapists and other professionals to provide tailored support that reflects each pupil’s needs. You’ll help plan and deliver learning activities, monitor progress and contribute to pupils’ individual development plans and reviews.
Your responsibilities will include:
Supporting pupils with SEND to take part in learning and make progress.
Leading learning activities for individuals, small groups and whole classes under teacher direction.
Planning and adapting specified activities to suit pupils’ needs and learning objectives.
Supervising pupils and helping maintain a safe, supportive and caring environment.
Observing, recording and reporting pupils’ progress, achievements and development needs.
Preparing learning resources and running targeted interventions.
Supporting therapy, care and personal care programmes where required.
Contributing to individual development plans and reviews under the direction of the class teacher.
Communicating with parents or carers when agreed with the Headteacher, senior leaders or class teacher.
Leading the class in the teacher’s absence.
Following safeguarding procedures and reporting concerns promptly.
About you
You’ll have experience working with pupils in an education or care setting, including experience supporting pupils with SEND. You’ll communicate well, work positively with colleagues and pupils, and be ready to take initiative while following the professional direction of the teacher or lead professional.
You’ll also bring:
Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy, or equivalent.
A Level 3 qualification, which may be vocational.
Essential digital and ICT skills, including confidence using recording systems.
A professional, punctual and positive approach.
A commitment to training and ongoing professional development.
The ability to respond constructively to challenges and support your own and others’ well-being.
A Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, HLTA status, relevant SEND training or strong subject knowledge would be an advantage.
