Teaching Assistant

Salary: Surrey PS3 - £21,269 annual FTE – pro rata: £8,667

Hours: 17.5/week, 38 weeks per year (+2.5 hours/week lunchtime supervision paid under a separate contract at Surrey PS1/2 - £20733 – pro rata: £1207)

Contract Type: part-time, temporary – initially to December 2024 with the possibility of further extension dependent on support needs.

Reporting to: Deputy Headteacher & SENDCo

Our friendly village school on the outskirts of East Grinstead is looking to appoint a Teaching Assistant, initially working within a Key Stage 2 class to support the needs of some of our fantastic pupils, helping us to fulfil our vision of ‘finding the best in everyone.’

We would love to find someone with an interest in supporting children to achieve and grow, regardless of the barriers they face. The children would love to work with someone who is compassionate, nurturing and dedicated to unlocking learning and achievement for them. The role will involve working with small groups, the wider class or individuals depending on the lessons and activities taking place as well as the evolving needs of the children in the class.

The hours for this post are 17.5 hours per week, 38 weeks per year, (plus attendance at INSETS if required) 8.45am – 12.15pm.

Providing lunchtime supervision of children is an expectation of the role but is paid under a separate contract which attracts an annual pro rata salary of £1207 for 2.5 hours weekly, term time only (Surrey Pay Grade 1/2 £20733 FTE).

We are looking for a person:

  • who is flexible, adaptable and willing to develop with support from others.
  • who has excellent communication skills.
  • who understands the needs of the Key Stage 2 curriculum and how it could be adapted to support learning needs, particularly in the development of maths and reading. (training can also be given to develop skills in a range of areas)
  • who may have experience working with children with special educational needs- this is desirable but not essential.
  • who can work independently and as part of the class and wider staff team.
  • who is compassionate, patient and positive towards pupils and their work.
  • who is organised and reliable.

We are a small, friendly and close-knit team. We love our village school feel and our friendly local community but we also use the best of local and national expertise to give our children the best experiences we can. We are a one-form school located on the edge of south-east Surrey, graded ‘good’ in our most recent Ofsted inspection in November 2022. Our school is a beautiful mix of old (very old- we have the oldest school building in Surrey still in use!) and modern facilities with beautiful grounds.

The role has come about as we look to expand our team at a time when the pandemic continues to present challenges for many children, both educationally and in terms of their emotional and mental health. It will initially be a temporary role with a fixed term contract to December 2024, but with the possibility of extension depending on the staffing and support needs of the school in 2024-2025.

If you are interested in applying, we would be very pleased to have a chat and show you round the school. Please contact us to book a time with a member of our leadership team.

Applications close on Monday 15th April at 12pm; interviews will take place the following week. The start date is as soon as possible thereafter depending on notice period & availability.
