Curriculum Team Leader for Design

Start: Start of term 5, 2022/23

Salary: MPR2 – UPR3 + TLR 1B

Location: Bedminster Down School (near Bristol)

Contract: Full time

Term: Permanent

Bedminster Down School is looking for an excellent teacher and leader to join the school on a full-time basis. The school is rated as good by Ofsted and we are looking for an enthusiastic and energetic technology teacher to take on the role of Curriculum Team Leader for Design. The successful candidate will be joining a large Curriculum Team, which encompasses the disciplines of art and technology. You will join a support Curriculum Team Leadership group who you will meet with regularly to share best practice and drive improvement within your team. You will line manage experienced and highly skilled TLR holders within your team who can be relied upon to support you with improving the quality of education in Design. You will lead your team as they continue to support every young person to enjoy art and technology and to see the vital importance that both creativity and technical skills have for young people as they transition to post-16. As a classroom practitioner, you will deliver a range of disciplines across technology, to students across the ability range in KS3 and KS4. Applications from specialists in product design and engineering will be looked on favourably.

Our design curriculum is rooted in high expectations of all students, with a focus on providing a diverse range of rich and interesting projects which will allow students to express themselves, whilst consistently embedding the core knowledge that makes students the artists, engineers and Michelin Star chefs of the future. Our building is fantastically well apportioned; no design lessons take place outside of bespoke practical spaces, which include our dark room for photography and kiln room for pottery. We believe strongly in providing a full KS3 experience to all of our young people, so the design curriculum remains broad until the end of Year 9, when students begin their KS4 options. As a result of the experience that students have in KS3, design is the most popular KS4 curriculum area, with multiple options classes running in almost every discipline. We work closely with the other Futura secondary schools to develop our shared curriculum, to share the best resources and to identify the best teaching practice and share this pedagogical knowledge between schools. We have a strong belief in the power of high-quality teaching and learning to change the lives of our students and we have developed highly effective lesson structures and pedagogical approaches which drive progress in every lesson.

We operate a ‘Ready to Learn’ behaviour system in the school and classroom behaviour is managed consistently and effectively. Our senior and pastoral teams manage the rare incidents of highly challenging behavior and permanently staff the behavior support rooms. This means that, as a teacher at Bedminster Down School, you have the ability to spend your work time on planning and delivering lessons which will maximize engagement and progress, as well as providing high quality feedback to your students.

In return we offer:

  • A competitive salary
  • A full and varied CPD programme offering teaching and leadership development for our staff
  • An opportunity to work in a supportive team from whom you can learn, develop and grow
  • Wider opportunities to be involved across the Futura Learning Partnership
  • An energised and professional working environment
  • Benefits include; pension scheme, discounted sports centre/gym membership, free wellbeing support & medical cover, free on-site parking and cycle to work scheme.

We are keen to ensure that you have as much information to proceed with your application as possible, so if you would like a conversation about either the academy or the position please contact Laura Campbell (Assistant Principal) by E-Mail.  Contact details can be located within the 'Apply Now' section; please log in or register to view.
