Bedminster Down School is looking for an energetic and enthusiastic person to join a dynamic Special Educational Needs Team that thrives on supporting young people. Bedminster Down School is rated as good by Ofsted and our large support staff team play a vital role in ensuring that the wider needs of our students are catered for as effectively as possible.

As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant for Literacy you will provide support to students in school who need additional help to read, write and speak with the same level of confidence as their peers. As a direct consequence of your work, students will be able to engage more effectively with the whole school curriculum, allowing them to make the progress of which they are capable. You will work one-to-one and with groups of students, delivering interventions including Lexia and Read-Write-Inc which are proven to help young people to close their literacy gaps. In addition to the interventions groups that you run, you will also work closely with the teaching staff in the school, helping them to support the students you work with in their lessons. To ensure our package of support for our most vulnerable young people is having the very greatest impact, you will liaise effectively with the other staff teams who will be working with your students on their wider needs, including the attendance, behaviour and pastoral teams.

The ideal candidate for this post will be a qualified higher level teaching assistant, or be working towards HLTA status. They will have a range of experiences from previous employment of working with young people – particularly students with special educational needs. Most of all though, you will be patient, caring and have a ‘can-do’ attitude. You will be provided with a range of support and training, including any necessary qualifications, to ensure you can fulfill the duties of the post well.

In return we offer:

  • A competitive salary
  • A full and varied training programme offering development for our staff
  • An opportunity to work in a supportive team from whom you can learn, develop and grow
  • Wider opportunities to be involved across the Futura Learning Partnership
  • An energised and professional working environment
