Bedminster Down School is looking for a technically skilled and supportive person to join our science team as a Senior Science Technician. The school is rated as good by Ofsted and the successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting every one of our students to make the very best progress that they can. You will be joining a friendly team, with a wealth of experience, which is always looking to improve.

Our science curriculum is rooted in high expectations of all students, with a focus on the development and consistent embedding of the core knowledge that makes students high quality scientists. We believe that conducting regular experiments, both through teacher demonstration and through whole class participation, is a crucial part of helping students to understand scientific principles and to embed them in their long-term memory. As a Senior Science Technician, you will ensure that the practical sessions that are woven through the science curriculum are well planned, resourced and that all of the equipment required meets excellent safety and quality standards.

In KS4 all students, regardless of ability, have the option to choose to study separate sciences and, such is the popularity of science in the school, approximately a third of the cohort chooses to do so. We work closely with the other Futura secondary schools to develop our shared curriculum, to share the best resources and to identify the best teaching practice and share this knowledge between schools. As a Senior Science Technician, there are a group of colleagues in equivalent posts across the Trust who you will be able to liaise with regularly and the science teachers at the school are skilled and experienced professionals who will be able to guide you if you need support.

If you have a strong belief in the power of high-quality teaching and learning to change the lives of young people, especially when that teaching is reinforced by experiment-based practice, this is the job for you.

In return we offer:

  • A competitive salary
  • A full and varied training programme offering development for our staff
  • An opportunity to work in a supportive team from whom you can learn, develop and grow
  • Wider opportunities to be involved across the Futura Learning Partnership
  • An energised and professional working environment

Benefits include; pension scheme, discounted sports centre/gym membership, free wellbeing support & medical cover, free on-site parking and cycle to work scheme.

We are keen to ensure that you have as much information to proceed with your application as possible, so if you would like a conversation about either the academy or the position please contact Laura Hobbs (Curriculum Team Leader for Science)
