Attendance/Welfare Officer 37 hours per week
To assist with implementing and developing the Academy attendance policy and monitor attendance levels as required. To investigate and follow-up students’ absence from school and promote outstanding attendance. To support with school administration as required, as part of the administration team.
This role requires a dedicated, organised and determined individual who will be responsible for maintaining an effective and accurate attendance system, whilst upholding the Trust’s core principles and values regarding attendance and wider educational approach. Candidates will need to be highly organised, with excellent communication skills and exceptional attention to detail.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
- To oversee attendance records, ensuring that they are accurate and up to date.
- To lead on weekly attendance and AIO meetings.
- To follow up referrals relating to school attendance in accordance with the Academy attendance policy.
- To communicate with parents/carers or local authority as required.
- To liaise with student, parent, carers, schools and other agencies and to devise appropriate strategies to promote and improve school attendance.
- To organise and participate in welfare/home visits.
- To refer non-school attendance cases to the Attendance Improvement Service (AIS) in accordance with the Academy attendance policy.
- To liaise with the appropriate member of the AIS, organising panel meetings, reviews and working in partnership on the day to day issues around Academy attendance.
- To assist Heads of Year in addressing the attendance and truancy of targeted families, maintaining regular contact with parents/carers whose children’s attendance is of concern.
- Contact parents to discuss concerns and coordinate appointments for attendance meetings.
- To check dual registration students.
- To apply fines for non attendance.
- Apply to outside agencies for SRF.
- Demonstrate a flexible approach to workload and prioritise tasks efficiently.
- Ensure that work is produced in a timely and efficient manner.
- Produce statistical reports.
- Maintain written records of all actions taken in attendance-related meetings with parents.
- To provide support within the reprographics department
- To undertake general administration as directed by the Office Manager.
Person specification and skills:
- A strong written and verbal communicator with excellent team working skills.
- Motivated and determined to succeed, with a flexible approach to work.
- Able to prioritise workload accurately and efficiently.
- Good level of IT skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. A working knowledge of SIMs will be an advantage.
- The ability to work under pressure whilst maintaining a positive attitude, in a demanding and busy environment.
- Well organised and capable of working on your own initiative.
- A keen eye for detailand accuracy.
- Flexible and supportive with the ability to work cohesively as a member of the administrative team.
This role will sits within the school administrative department; the postholder will be line managed by the SLT member with responsibility for attendance and supervised by the Office Manager.
