You will provide specialist teaching to secure high quality teaching and learning for pupils with DLD across the school. You will support the language needs of children with DLD while also supporting their academic progress, helping pupils to access a mainstream curriculum.

Responsible for:

  • Ensuring that pupils with DLD make good progress, whether working in a separate classroom or accessing a mainstream classroom. Progress will be measured in terms of progress towards academic targets, speech and language targets and in terms of pupils’ wellbeing.

You will maintain high expectations of pupils’ progress and attainment. You will work closely with the SENDCO and the on-site Speech and Language therapists to ensure that language targets can be supported through classroom teaching, so that pupils get a language-rich education that supports their learning needs. There will be consideration of best practice within the classroom and use of evidenced-based approaches to ensure positive outcomes for children.

You will be expected to fulfil duties in the following areas:

  • To deliver lessons in a way that provides a broad, balanced and accessible curriculum for pupils with DLD.
  • To work in partnership with the Speech and Language therapists to ensure that speech and language targets can be met through classroom teaching.
  • To implement a range of effective strategies so that pupils are able to access a challenging curriculum.
  • To identify which pupils require additional, targeted approaches.
  • To work with teaching and support staff, assisting in the delivery of effective support of pupils with DLD throughout the Academy so that pupils have a meaningful experience of mainstream education alongside their specialist support, where possible.
  • To collaborate with other specialist staff, including Educational Psychologists, to provide personalised approaches for pupils.
  • To work closely with parents, carers and pupils with DLD, supporting effective communication between home and school.
