We are looking for a teacher to lead and manage provision for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) at Pimlico Academy, including within our Additionally Resourced Provision, the Language and Communication Centre (LCC).

The Future Academies Trust is one of the country’s leading academy trusts; it was established with the intention of improving the life chances of children through an education that is built on the importance of knowledge, teachers who are experts in their subject, and an unwavering focus on raising aspirations for all. Our family of schools provide an exciting educational environment for students of all abilities, including students with SEND. The Trust hosts 3 Additionally Resourced Provisions, including the LCC at Pimlico Academy, and prides itself on making its mainstream classrooms both aspirational and inclusive.

Pimlico Academy is an OFSTED ‘Outstanding’ school with an above-average percentage of students with EHCPs on its roll. In addition to this, it is the home of the LCC, an Additionally Resourced Provision for students with a speech, language and communication need. Students with SEND at Pimlico Academy achieve outcomes that are significantly above national average by any measure.

If your application is successful, you will be leading a diverse team that includes a Speech and Language Therapist, Heads of Centre, a counselling service and a team of Teaching Assistants. Educational Psychology is bought in to support with understanding of students with complex needs.

Most importantly, SEND is a whole-school responsibility. The SENDCO works with a wide range of adults across the school – teaching, support and pastoral – to make this a reality in practice.

The ideal candidate will have a desire to ensure that students with a variety of SEND make outstanding progress in all lessons. In particular, the post will appeal to a teacher with a passion for leadership, someone who is organised and efficient and who can implement the Trust’s vision for Inclusion as well as national changes in SEND practice.

Pimlico Academy is an outstanding state-funded secondary school based in the heart of Westminster and Future Academies’ flagship secondary. Future Academies is a Multi-Academy Trust which includes three primary schools and seven secondary schools in and around London and Hertfordshire. We are motivated by a mission of social change and reducing educational inequality. We are unique in our approach to a knowledge-rich curriculum; our school motto is Libertas per cultum (Freedom through education), and in our strong emphasis on raising young people’s aspirations and outcomes through the teaching of classical and traditional subjects. Our children and young people study a bespoke curriculum developed by researchers at our Curriculum Centre, which places a focus on developing their cultural literacy and their awareness of the forces, words and events that have shaped our society today.

• The chance to make a difference to children’s and young people’s lives. Future Academies is of the belief that all children have the right to enriching education through a knowledge-rich and child-centric approach: our teachers can therefore make a dramatic impact on the lives of these children.

• Fast career progression. Because knowledge and intelligence, rather than length of service, are lauded and rewarded at Future Academies, teachers and support staff can quickly take up great responsibility, adding to their already exceptional experience and knowledge, joining the SLT or writing for the Trust’s Curriculum Centre, where our in-house textbooks are produced.

• Excellent CPD. The Trust is knowledge-centric and encourages CPD at all levels with excellent opportunities for swift career progression, within the Academy and Trust. This includes Leadership Development opportunities.

• Knowledge-rich staff team. You will be working with a supportive leadership team, cohesive staff body, and very purposeful environment with excellent resources. Being part of a Trust of schools enables you to share knowledge across a wider range of educational professionals.
