Thank you for taking an interest in joining us as an IT Apprentice.

This is an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated and committed individual to join Holmleigh Park High School as part of our IT Team. We are now looking for an ambitious, enthusiastic, resilient and flexible individual who can work within a friendly team.

Our apprentice will learn to apply new technical skills and knowledge to resolve problems with the setting up, use or maintenance of all School IT equipment. Under the general direction of the IT Manager, you will learn to provide effective IT support, maintenance and development to IT equipment and systems in place within Holmleigh Park High School.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist colleagues in facilitating and supporting IT-based learning enabling students to achieve high standards and to become independent learners.
  • Assist all staff and students with matters regarding IT in order to ensure effective teaching, learning and administrative support.
  • To respond to, track and resolve job requests via the help desk, ensuring effective communication with all relevant parties.
  • To ensure the security and integrity of the network by following policies and IT best practice.
  • To ensure that the computer suites, workstations and peripherals are maintained and well organised, taking into account health and safety requirements.
  • To assist colleagues as appropriate with software; including maintenance and user support.
  • Under the general direction of the IT Manager, to provide effective IT support, maintenance and development to IT equipment and services.
  • To actively promote and contribute to the school's ethos and values.
  • To assist colleagues in facilitating and supporting IT-based learning enabling students to achieve high standards and to become independent learners.

What training will I receive:

Firebrand will also provide you with a Learning Mentor who will be supporting and assisting you with your development.

By the end of your 16 month apprenticeship, in addition to having numerous industry recognized qualifications (if applicable to the standard), a steady career with a supportive employer, you will also be recognised by the British Computer Society (BCS) for entry onto the register of IT Technicians, confirming SFIA level 3/4 professional competence.

Safeguarding Statement:

Holmleigh Park High School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children in line with the DfE guidelines “Safeguarding Children: Safer Recruitment and Selection in Education Settings”. The school will adhere to the following guidelines:

1. All new staff will be subject to a criminal background check through the Disclosure & Barring Service. This will be an enhanced check for those whose duties include caring for, training or supervising children.

2. All posts at Holmleigh Park High School require an acceptance of the responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of children. 3. The selection procedure for all posts will include a consideration of the applicant’s suitability to work with children as well as the post.

4. All applicants must submit a signed application form. This is taken as verification that all statements are true and that the applicant is not in any way disqualified from working with children eg on List 99.

5. Posts at Holmleigh Park High School are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act of 1974, and if necessary a declaration must be made on the application form.

6. The school will seek references on all short listed candidates prior to interview, and may approach previous employers for information to verify experience or qualifications prior to interviews.

7. Referees should be someone who has had a working or professional relationship with the candidate, and should not be a friend or relative. 8. Referees will be asked about disciplinary offences relating to children including any in which the penalty is time expired, and whether the applicant has been the subject of any child protection concerns and the outcome of that procedure.
