I feel privileged to be Head of School here at Greenstone Primary School, with outdoor and forest school learning at the heart of everything we do. We strongly believe that nature nurtures creativity and empowers children to take ownership over their learning, fostering independence and providing the freedom to take risks whilst developing confidence. At Greenstone, we believe regular contact with nature is essential for holistic, healthy child development and we provide regular, invaluable outdoor learning opportunities as part of our curriculum.
We ensure high expectations of teaching and learning in a nurturing environment where every child is valued and can succeed; a warm and welcoming school which is truly a celebration of those within its community. Our learning environment fosters a love of learning and equips children with the knowledge, skills and character necessary to be successful, independent lifelong learners.
We are proud to be part of the Lionheart Educational Trust and work very closely with our other trust primary and junior schools; Broom Leys, Highcliffe, Riverside, Hallam Fields and Newhall. Together, we work tirelessly to ensure that we all provide the highest quality education, both academically and holistically.
Our Trust vision of ‘ANY young person from ANY background deserves an EQUAL chance to be successful in whatever they do’ permeates throughout our school. This vision sits alongside the 6Rs; Respect, Responsibility, Resourcefulness, Resilience, Reflection and Reciprocity. We aim to develop self-directed, inquisitive and brave individuals who want to reach their full potential.
We work in close partnership with families and the local community to build a school where every child will thrive.

Greenstone Primary School – a name that pays homage to local engineer William Stenson – is a brand-new, two-form entry primary school located in Southeast Coalville. Built at the heart of new housing developments between Hugglescote and Ellistown, Greenstone aims to satisfy a growing demand for school places and welcomes its first cohort of EYFS pupils in August 2025.
With a strong emphasis on promoting a nurturing, outdoor-based education, our modern school building has been expertly designed with year group pavilions linked by landscaped pathways to encourage time spent outdoors; the surrounding grounds also provide plentiful outdoor space for activities.
Adopting a forest school approach – which complements the all-important core subjects – allows our pupils to enjoy experiences beyond the classroom, activities that deepen their understanding of the curriculum and support both their academic and holistic development.
This approach:
Alongside the other primary and junior schools in Lionheart Educational Trust, we also integrate ‘The 6Rs’ into our curriculum: Respect, Responsibility, Resourcefulness, Resilience, Reflection and Reciprocity. These values underpin all we do at Greenstone and allow our pupils to fulfil their potential and become the best possible version of themselves.
