We are seeking an enthusiastic and passionate Teacher of Dance to lead our GCSE course starting in September 2021. The successful applicant will have the chance to further establish Dance as an integral part of GWA’s commitment to performing arts, making it a field where students can flourish and develop into excellent performers and leaders of others. The post would suit a full-time applicant who in the first year can offer some teaching in another subject (in performing arts or elsewhere in the school), or a part-time applicant focusing solely on Dance who can offer at least 0.5 FTE.

Great Western Academy opened in brand new, state-of-the-art facilities in North Swindon in September 2018. The Academy is heavily oversubscribed in years 7, 8 and 9 and our first cohort of Year 12 students formed our new Sixth Form in September 2019.

Performing arts is a key area of our provision at GWA, both in our taught curriculum and in our exceptional enrichment offering. All students have a weekly Dance lesson in Key Stage 3, and we begin our GCSE provision this September. The successful candidate will also be expected to promote Dance in our enrichment provision which runs for all students from 3.10 to 4.15pm Monday to Thursday, including organising activities such as a House Dance competition and contributing to the choreography in our annual school show.

There is the potential for this role to develop as the school and Sixth Form grows, with various leadership opportunities becoming available in future years, both subject and whole school based. Our priority is very much to recruit the best classroom practitioners who can ensure our students arrive at the Academy excited about the day ahead and leave each day talking about the excellent learning they have experienced.

Great Western Academy aims to radically improve the life chances of every student who attends. Our brand-new building and state-of-the-art facilities help us to achieve this, but it is the fantastic team of staff who turn our vision into reality. If you have the proven ability to inspire students in the classroom and beyond then this provides you with an exciting opportunity to further shape your practice and develop your career.

Further details are available on the Academy website and in the information documents attached.

Applications should be submitted electronically by 9am on Monday 1st March 2021. Interviews will hopefully take place on site during the following week, Government guidelines permitting.
