We are seeking a dynamic, forward thinking teacher of PE to help continue the exceptional work in this curriculum area since the opening of Great Western Academy in September 2018. The post is available as part of the expansion of the Academy. Our cohort is full and over-subscribed in years 7 to 9, and there are nearly 100 students in our Sixth Form, including A-level PE groups in years 12 and 13.
Great Western Academy opened in brand new, state-of-the-art facilities in North Swindon in September 2018, including excellent internal and external PE areas. This role will provide the successful applicant with the opportunity to further develop and teach an exciting core PE curriculum as well as opportunities to teach GCSE and A-level PE. You will be part of a dynamic and growing PE teaching team who have the chance to significantly shape the experiences of our students in PE as they progress through our growing school. The foundation set by the current team is exceptional; students enjoy PE lessons, and both boys’ and girls’ teams have experienced significant success, for example winning and coming second respectively in the area athletics out of 12 schools in 2019. Physical activities also form a key part of our enrichment programme which all students take part in from 3.10 to 4.30pm each day.
Given the nature of our growing school we will need the successful candidate to provide a second teaching subject, at least in their first year. The proportion of the teaching in this second subject will likely be reduced from 2022 onwards, once the school is full.
Great Western Academy aims to radically improve the life chances of every student who attends. Our brand new building and state-of-the-art facilities help us to achieve this, but it is the fantastic team of staff who turn our vision into reality. If you have the proven ability to inspire students in the classroom and beyond then this provides you with an exciting opportunity to further shape your practice and develop your career.
Further details are available on the Academy website and in the information documents attached.
Applications should be submitted electronically by 9am on Wednesday 27th January 2021. Interviews will take place soon after this.
Great Western Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
We particularly welcome applications from under represented groups including ethnicity, gender, transgender, age, disability, sexual orientation or religion.
