In September 2022, Ysgol Gymraeg Gwynllyw was opened as an all-age school, as our primary department welcomed its first pupils.
We have an enthusiastic team of staff here at Gwynllyw, who are dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of learning and teaching and learner achievement.
Ysgol Gyfun Gwynllyw opened as the first Welsh comprehensive school in the old county of Gwent in 1988 and since that time, it is nice to see Welsh education flourishing in this area. The school is located on the outskirts of the historic town of Pont-y-pool, and very convenient to the big towns, Cardiff (about half an hour), Newport (about quarter of an hour), very central to the M4 and M5 motorways and the Pennau yr Cymoedd highway which leads to Merthyr, Abergavenny and Hereford.
Job Role
- Driving of our minibus
- Collecting the pupils and taking them to required location
- Ensuring the minibus is kept clean and in good condition, including, but not restricted to weekly cleaning of the bus, both inside and out, refuelling the vehicle as required, weekly vehicle checks (e.g. tyres, lights, oil, water, etc.)
- Adhering to all school policies including safeguarding and Health and Safety guidelines for minibus drivers
Qualifications, skills and experience, personal qualities required:
- A Full UK Driving Licence with D1 category
- Experience in an educational setting (desirable)
- Strong organisational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Basic medical or first aid experience (desirable).
- Attention to detail and a proactive attitude.
Additional Requirements:
- Car Business insurance.
- Must meet the School’s Insurance criteria
A full clean driving licence is essential. Any offer of employment will be conditional upon the successful candidate being accepted for insurance cover by the school’s insurance provider. Whilst every application will be considered on its own merits, successful applicants should note that if they have six or more penalty points on their driving licence, or a previous drink-driving conviction, they will not be accepted for any offer of employment.
Training
Full training will be provided, including Midas, safeguarding, pupil welfare, and basic medical procedures.

Safeguarding
The post-holder’s responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for whom they are responsible, or with whom they come into contact, will be to adhere to and ensure compliance with the School’s Safeguarding (Child Protection) Policy at all times. If in the course of carrying out the duties of the post the post-holder becomes aware of any actual or potential risks to the safety or welfare of children in the School they must report any concerns to the School’s Designated Safeguarding Lead
