Nursery Leader

Responsible To: Senior Strategy Team
Responsible for: The Nursery pupils and staff
Scale/Salary: NJC Scale 5 or 6, points 15 -20
Grade: NJC Scale 5 or 6, points 15 – 20 (dependent on experience)
Annual Salary (full time equivalent): £32,931 - £36,582 per annum
Hours of duty: 40 hours per week, 40 weeks per year (term time plus 2 weeks)
Working Pattern: Monday to Friday 08:00 to 17:00 (with 1 hour unpaid to include lunch and breaks). 40 hours in addition to be worked across the year, to be agreed with Senior Strategy Team

Interviews will be carried out the week commencing Monday 9th June, however we may appoint prior to the closing date. 

Job purpose:

To lead on and promote excellent practice and to assume collective responsibility for the quality of the Nursery.

To plan, assess and deliver teaching and learning activities supporting the children’s developmental needs and in line with the EYFS curriculum, personal development and behavioural requirements.

To lead, support and mentor other practitioners in the skills and behaviour that promotes good and better outcomes for children.

Main duties:

• To lead the Nursery
• To ensure all safeguarding requirement are met
• Ensure that all practitioners understand the principles and content of the EYFS and know how to put them into practice.
• To work as part of a team in a positive and proactive way to ensure the provision of outstanding education and care for all children in the nursery.
• Role modelling outstanding practice to the Nursery Team
• To make assessments of children and report these to parents.

Children’s learning

• Encourage all practitioners to have high expectations of all children and to demonstrate commitment to ensuring they can achieve their full potential.
• Establish and sustain a safe, welcoming, purposeful, stimulating and encouraging environment where children feel confident, secure and are challenged in their learning.
• To actively support the development of children’s social communication skills, including those with EAL and SEN
• To ensure that all practitioners establish fair, respectful, trusting, supportive and constructive relationships with children communicating sensitively and effectively.
• To work in partnership with parents/carers providing formal and informal opportunities through which information about children’s well-being, development and learning can be shared to improve outcomes.
• To actively promote equal opportunities for all pupils and staff in the EYFS, to work closely with the Inclusion Manager to achieve this.

Teamwork and collaboration

• Works with the Nursery team to deliver appropriate support to pupils, taking the lead role on improvements to provision and practice.
• Establish and sustain a culture of collaborative and cooperative working between colleagues within the Nursery and wider Early Years team to ensure continuity and progression within the EYFS.
• Influence and shape the policies and practices of the setting and share in collective responsibility for their implementation.
• Contribute to the work of a multi-professional team and where appropriate coordinate and implement agreed programmes and interventions.

Leadership

• Supervisory responsibility for a team of early year’s practitioners and trainees/ students.
• To inspire, model and disseminate excellent reflective practice.
• To support and mentor other practitioners in the skills and behaviour that promotes good outcomes for children.
• Adopt a creative and innovative approach towards practice, by being open to opportunities for improvements
• To keep up to date with current practice by engaging in CPD, attending courses and reading relevant documents ensuring these have a sustained impact within the Nursery.

Other:

• To be part of the wider teaching team and attend staff meetings, children’s meetings, inset days and parent’s evenings.
• To promote the Nursery and make links with other Early Years providers in the area.
• To assist in any other duties reasonably requested by the Headteacher.
