This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. The amendments to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (2013 and 2020) provides that when applying for certain jobs and activities, certain convictions and cautions are considered ‘protected’. This means that they do not need to be disclosed to employers, and if they are disclosed, employers cannot take them into account. The Ministry of Justice’s guidance on the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the Exceptions Order 1975, provides information about which convictions must be declared during job applications and related exceptions and further information about filtering offences can be found in the DBS filtering guide.
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The school will carry out an enhanced DBS check with children’s barred list information as part of its safer recruitment procedures. Any information disclosed will be handled in accordance with the Data Protection Act and the school’s safeguarding policies.
Having a criminal record will not necessarily bar you from working with us. This will depend on the nature of the position and the circumstances of your offences. We undertake to discuss any matter revealed in a DBS check with you before withdrawing a conditional offer of employment.
