HOWELL'S SCHOOL

PERIPATETIC DRAMA TEACHER (POST-SHARING CAN BE CONSIDERED)

ASAP OR FOR SEPT 2023

THE POST

A requirement has arisen for a well-qualified, experienced, flexible peripatetic teacher of Drama and Acting. This person will be engaged by school to provide one-to-one or small group tuition via a contract with parents.

Peripatetic teachers are self-employed, and the fees are fixed annually by the Speech & Drama staff and the school. As self-employed teachers, fees are paid directly to the tutor from the parent/guardian. Peppercorn rent for all peripatetic staff is £15 per year.

Speech & Drama is taught across the school from Years 2 to 13, however in the first instance the successful candidate will teach in the Senior School and Co-ed College. Speech & Drama is a popular extra-curricular subject, which supports GCSE & A Level studies and school productions. It is taught primarily after school and classes are normally for an hour between 3.30pm and 5.30pm, with occasional lunchtime lessons, and peripatetic staff at Howell¿s are contracted to deliver a series of 30 sessions over the academic year. There are approximately 40-50 students who attend classes this academic year.

Flexibility in working hours will be required at times depending on the number of students, and the successful candidate will also attend and assist with organising examination sessions.

The successful applicant will have experience in teaching across the range of ages and will be expected to keep registers and communicate with parents by email. LAMDA exams are held at least six times a year, and experience teaching all areas of the LAMDA syllabus is a key element of the role, with the successful applicant expected to be available on the dates of the exams to support their students.

Completed applications should be submitted by 12pm on Friday 14th April 2023, with interviews to follow shortly after.

The GDST is committed to diversity, inclusion and real change: a family where every individual is valued, respected and included. We welcome applications from all suitably qualified candidates and from a range of backgrounds and experiences including race, gender, disability, religion/belief, sexual orientation or age. Applications will be accepted in alternative formats, therefore should you require any adjustments to be able to complete the application form or wish to discuss any accessibility requirements, please contact Helen Flynn (she/her) for a confidential conversation at your convenience.
