This is a pivotal leadership role within the school. The Director of Maths is a key member of our Extended Leadership Team, operating on the leadership pay scale and working in close, collaborative partnership with the Senior Leadership Team
ROLE OVERVIEW
To lead the Maths Faculty. This consists of the following subjects: Maths, Further Maths and Statistics. Please note that the subjects within a faculty are subject to change at the direction of the Headteacher.
The Director of Faculty will:
- Demonstrate a passion for education and a desire to improve the life chances of all students.
- Build a culture of continuous learning and development.
- Adapt rapidly to the challenge of building on the existing strengths of the school to achieve all round excellence.
- Assess their approach and style and challenge themselves to think differently about how to best align their leadership to the needs of the school.
- Empower and motivate staff.
- Maintain and develop the school's ethos of diversity, inclusivity, and equality of opportunity.
- Be a highly visible presence around the school and model expectations of staff and students.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership
As a member of the Extended Leadership Team, the Director of Faculty will:
- Support the Headteacher and Leadership Team in the day-to-day management of the school
- Communicate the school's vision compellingly and support the Headteacher’s strategic leadership
- Lead by example, focusing on providing excellent education for all students
- Lead on particular whole-school strategies and policy areas, and take responsibility for driving agreed school improvement priorities
- Build positive relationships with members of the school's community
- Keep up to date with developments in education
- Use data and assessment within their faculty to ensure students make exceptional progress through precise analysis, targeted intervention and ongoing review of impact
- Ensure a rich extra-curricular offer across the faculty
Managing staff
As a member of the Extended Leadership Team, the Director of Faculty will:
- Line manage Heads of Department within your faculty, by developing and challenging them.
- This will include undertaking performance management, holding Raising Achievement Meetings and providing necessary support and guidance, as well as managing underperformance.
- Hold faculty leaders rigorously to account for outcomes, standards and implementation through robust line management and performance processes

1. All new staff will be subject to a criminal background check through the Disclosure & Barring Service. This will be an enhanced check for those whose duties include caring for, training or supervising children.
2. All posts at Holmleigh Park High School require an acceptance of the responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.
3. The selection procedure for all posts will include a consideration of the applicant’s suitability to work with children as well as the post.
4. All applicants must submit a signed application form. This is taken as verification that all statements are true and that the applicant is not in any way disqualified from working with children eg on List 99.
5. Posts at Holmleigh Park High School are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act of 1974, and if necessary a declaration must be made on the application form.
6. The school will seek references on all short listed candidates prior to interview, and may approach previous employers for information to verify experience or qualifications prior to interviews.
7. Referees should be someone who has had a working or professional relationship with the candidate, and should not be a friend or relative.
8. Referees will be asked about disciplinary offences relating to children including any in which the penalty is time expired, and whether the applicant has been the subject of any child protection concerns and the outcome of that procedure.
